You just bought they equipment that i hate the most.
Anyway, this isnt about me
You wont find much love on here for the metal zone or death metal pedal. Infact a lot of people will advise that if it has "Metal" in the name then it will be shit.
and i dont like marshalls, i just..... really dont like marshalls

Just take your time and try different settings and combonations with your gear. That is the only way you are going to find what you like. My only suggestion is don't think more gain will make a tone sound better.

TSL's are great.Best advice,sell the two pedals you have there,and get a OD/Boost like:
Ibanez ts-9
Boss ds-1
Proco rat II
Electro harmonix Muff
Maxon od808
Ditch your pedals mate, and get a decent one to help shape your tone.Even a EQ pedal.

you can boost with a metal zone. turn the gain down all the way. it could work. remember that your amp will change completely once turned up half way or more.

Whn doing this, would you set up the chain like normal (Guitar to MEtal Zone, MZ to Amp Input), or would you run the MZ in the FX Loop? I always wondered that as I have seen bands play live with a metal zone through a tube amp, so I always wondered which Gain they were using, the pedal, amp, or a combo of both.

Set the pedal up like normal and run it like a clean boost. It will still have the characteristics of the MZ distortion but not the harsh ugliness that everyone hates.
Putting a distortion pedal in through the effects loop put it into the signal post preamp which would be altering the entire preamp signal. If you are using amp distortion, and then distort it even more with a MZ I have feeling that you will enter white noise hell. If you plug guitar into the pedal then into the fx loop return you still defeat the preamp of the amp and are then using the pedal as a preamp so only the tone controls on the pedal will work.
Most people that I have seen using the MT-2 live are using a combination of pedal/amp distortion. I say distortion instead of gain because most aren't using the gain properties of the pedal. but using the pedal to alter the distorted signal of the gain.

What a metalzone can do as a boost, thought it is different, just isnt as good as what others can do.
