Eminence Speakers
I searched and did not find a link that dealt directly with Eminence speakers except for the Swamp Thang review. Aside from that speaker are there any of the others you guys have tried? I am looking to replace a bad set out of my slant cabinet and Eminence seems to be weighing heavily on my mind. The price on these is right as well.

my guitar teacher once sayd that eminence speakers are better for like clean and jazzy bluesy stuff.
and that celestions are more suitable for high gain dists etc.
anyone know what true about that?

Well that all depends. The Celestion Vintage 30 is synonomous with high gain rock and metal. Its in most modern cabinets made today (Mesa, Marshall, Peavey, Bogner, Orange ect).
Check this out if you want to read more about Eminence Speakers:

I have celestions in my large amp and can from experience say that they do a good work, wether it is metal, jazz or ballads, high volume or low. If you are trying around they are definetly a worthy competitor to the eminence.

its more than a brand thing.. comparing two celestions, like say, a g12t-75 and a vintage 30, is like comparing an apple and an orange.
i have the swamp thangs, and if you're looking for SUPER clarity and low end for high gain sounds, those things rock.

Insert Name Here, I play Black/death metal so I guess I am looking for a speaker that while can handle distortion well, I do not want speaker distortion. I also want something that retains clarity and articulation of speed picked single note riffs.
I also do not like any of the new Celestions I have heard in the last 3-4 years. I am fully aware of speaker break-in and that new speakers have to age a bit, but none of the newer Celestions sound as rich as older ones did, say 7-10 years back as well as prior.
I will go one step more and say that I am specifically looking at the Patriot and Red Coat lines of Eminence.
The Eminence speakers I am looking at are:
Manowar
Wizard
Tonespotter
Swamp Thing
Texas Heat
Private Jack
My Straight cabinet is loaded with a set of Celestion G12-65's. I am looking at something that either approximates these(Tonespotter), or will blend nicely with them, or add a richness to the 65's that they lack on their own. If any of you have ever played a 4x12 loaded with 65's you know that they have a funny mid peak to them. I am alos not looking for a scooped speaker like the G12-T75. while they sound good I'm not into that tone. Nor am I into that disgusting V30 ice pick in the ear noise.
I ask because like most of us I do not have coin to drop on 5-6 sets of speakers just to check them out.

you have vintage g12-65's? do they say 15 ohms? if so you'll probably be happy to know you can sell those bad ass mother fuckers for like a little over $100 a piece. especially if they're the cork edge. i bought a very old crate cab loaded with these(obviously not stock) for like $200(being a crate and all), then sold the quad of speakers for like $500 shipped.. then realizing i missed the sound of them i ran across a deal for a quad for like $250 from someone who didnt know what they had.
but if you're just looking to make them sound better or other speakers to compliment them, i'd suggest checking out weber beam blockers. they mount in front of the speaker which kills the icepick to the ears effect, with a dome like center that helps spread more evenly. cheap too. i think i paid maybe like about $17 a piece plus shipping... so around $80, and it was a world of improvement.
heres a couple old pics of a cab loaded with them. you dont really see they're even there unless you have like a metal grill on your cab.

Yes they are the older ones 15ohms, cork edge, everything. Glad to know that in a pinch I could get some money for them, but they aren't for sale. They are in my straight cabinet, I need replacements for my slant is why I posed this thread. Not worried about the 65's, I like them.

You definitely need a very high wattage speaker to get the clean headroom, no breakup whatsoever that you are talking about. Like 100 watters ar more. I think the Swamp Thang is it.
