"First Reads"
"First Reads"
Much like the first kiss understood
The initial sight brings a sense of newness
And rhapsody to the eye
Drawn into fragmented moments away from normalcy
Elated or thrown down yet still in a different world momentarily
Rationality of the reasons behind so many kudos
Not necessarily fickle, but drawn into the birth of a new idea
A thrill to the mind

This is very well written, so well, in fact, that I don't have a clue about what the actual poem's about. Normalcy isn't the best choice of word... I would say normality is much more appropriate. Hmm. I'm finding this hard to interpret. Im getting imagery of my first kiss, and other firsts, yet it has little meaning. Is the title 'First Reads' referring to first occasions, such as kiss, etc.
Hmm. Interesting, and quite hard for me. Sorry to others *cough PST cough* who may find my unfortunate poetry imprudence obnoxious.

*cough PST couch* - whaa? lol
Yeah is normalcy even a word??? Im too lazy to check but normality is a sure bet. I think its about all first exxperiences where whethere you are happy with it or not you are taken to anoter world as stated by the poem or at least experiencing something new

Well, I was thinking about how I like so many things I've read right off the bat and apparently others immediate reaction is positive. Not so much at this forum, but a couple I've been reading at don't seem to see the same monotony or drivel that I do. That's why I compared the body of that idea to the thrill of the first kiss. I used the word "understood" following it to elude to it not just be a smooch on the playground by little kids, but when those sparks start to ignite and one actually understands what the kiss involves.
Normalcy... I don't know if it's a word or not. If you understood what it mean then that's cool. I'll look into a bit further later on. It fit at the time. Hey, poetic license.
And I appreciate your comments. Don't be intimidated. Everyone has their own level of understanding. as long as you aren't being obnoxiously stupid and making valid comments I don't think anyone would have a problem with comments.

A hymn to the greatness of new experiences, always fun to find people who agree on that point.
For me, the connection between the allution to actually reading something new and the first kiss was quite lovely. And tell me, isn't normalcy another word for defcon 5?

'Normalcy' is a word, and it's appropriate in that context. It's not really more uncommon than normality (you hear 'abnormality' a lot, or at least I do, but I more often than not hear 'normalcy' than 'normality,' except in the latter's technical use). I don't know about Defcon 5.
'So well-written it doesn't make sense' is incoherent, by the way.

Thanks for the info and comments.
I think probl' likes the way it sounds, but wasn't quite getting the meaning. Been there , done that myself. Sort of like a song in a foreign language that one might like, but not know what it means. Hopefully it makes more sense since I explained some of it.

Normalcy, opposite of mobilisation. See?
This is getting out of hand.

It makes perfect sense in a highly coherent way, since it's so on the spot. Poets , would-be-poets and wannabe-poets may not like it, but this is often what poetry sums up to.

If it doesn't make sense, it isn't well-written. Idiots believe it is because they don't realize that something that is well-written sounds and flows well and comes together to make sense. If it doesn't do all that, it isn't well-written. You could learn from all this.
The idea of something being well-written and not making sense is, once again, incoherent.

Okay, according your opinion, PST, is something that doesn't spell out exactly what it's about considered bad to you or is it just bad wording you're referring to?
