Active and passive equalizer....

What's the difference? I need to know because i'm looking at a new amp that has active eq on the lead channel and i don't think that i can handle any more batteries or that kinda shit. So what is active eq?

Probally one that amplifies the signal, making it a boost.A passive one would be for example parametric ones, that change the tone but dont amplify the signal.

You either boost or cut the signal with the active eq. With a passive eq you just control how much of bass/mid/treble whatever that you want to let through.

I see....but you don't have to have any batteries or other extra power sources to make it work, right?

Nope not at all. Would be kind of silly to have an amp plugged into a wall socket that still needed an extra 9v battery dont ya think?

Yepp, it would. But since an active pickup means ''needs batteries'' I was thinking that it might be for amps too :P Well, now that it isn't, i'm more than happy
