Another shockwave thread
how many people play a crate shockwave on this forum?? i picked one up arpund christmas time, and i really like it, im gonna buy an eq at some point though, but what do you guys think of it? the only think i dislike, is the mudiness of it, and how pinches just dont come out, even if you do roll the mids, and mess around with all the settings possible??
i have mine pretty scooped at:
mid:4
high:6
low:8
...probably why piches dont sound

well i ve tried the shockwave before and i really liked, i was going to get one but ended up going for a marshall dsl which in reality is a much better amp, but still the shockwave has got some fairly good cleans and the lead channels pretty sweet for metal. wasn't too much of a fan of the rythm channel though, i found it far to buzzy and muddy

Just a question about getting a cab for one of these;
I'm probably gonna buy one of these pretty soon but don't really have the room for a 4X12 cab, just wondering what 2X12 cabs could handle this (sorry, don't know anything about the wattage and ohmage etc...)?
Cheers!

I apologise, that want the question. the question was "what 2X12 cabs could take the 350 watt power. I'll grab a 4X12 if I have to but a 2X12 if preferable.

2x12? Thats excessive.
John Holland swears that the "350 watt power" is a lie, and claims its only about 150 watts tops, so, talk to him about this.

350 watts at 2 ohms ... I don't remember whether or not I said it was a lie, but I may have. But, if you split the ohms of the Shockwave down to what most amplifier heads run, at 4 ohms the Crate is 220 watts, and at 8 ohms 150 watts. If you want to use the Shockwave as it was made to, you have to run two cabs. Does the amp sound great? Yes, at lower volumes. When you crank the amp above halfway is when it starts to sound terrible. I ran it at 2 ohms, and it was still a disaster. Got a POD and a Carvin, ran it through the same cabs ... no farting, no breaking up.
I used to brag on this amp all the time, and that's because it DID sound great. But once I got a drummer, that's whenever it just sucked. Because we did'nt have a bassist, I used a bass cab in my rig, and some people here believe that that's exactly why I had the problem I had. Well, I asked a buddy of mine to let me borrow his Peavey XXX cab for one day to see if that was the problem, I replaced the bass cab with the guitar cab, and I got the exact same results.
There's a local band around here that has a guitarist that uses a Tidalwave. The other guitarist in that band uses a Cyclone. The Tidalwave guy has his amp completely maxed out, and he still can't be heard over the Cyclone guy.
If I had all of the money in the world I'd still have one of these, but I would use it for recording only. It simply does not serve me in a band situation.

i've used my shockwave for a few practices then i started using my blue voodoo. the blue voodoo is much much better for it but the shockwave did ok as the cab i had at the practice house was running at 8 ohms. I could still get enough volume but yeah it didn't sound great. in ideal circumstances, yes i think the shockwave could work well but it is not the best live amp.

Cool, I don't really need it for playing with a band, more for practicing and recording a bit with another guy, I'll get an Engl when I get a job and need a big live sound!

If that shockwave would sound at louder volumes exactly as it did at lower volumes, I'd still have it. YOU HEAR THAT CRATE? I'D STILL HAVE IT.
