scale patterns or notation

how do you guys remember the scales you use? Do you just remember the pattern up and down the neck or are you remembering the key signature?

I personally used the patterns for the longest time, now im trying to break that.

I think that patterns seem easier in the beginning, but once you get better you realize that you have a lot more to remember that way

I largely remember patterns on guitar.

With the woodwinds though I memorize the patterns for the major scales, then know which notes to change for the modes/scales based off of major.

Mainly familiarisation through playing riffs etc... Best advice is to get some backing tracks that are in scles you know, then just mess around with scales over the top. SOon your ear will pick out what sounds good as the scales get imprinted onto your mind. It's a hard concept to understand, I remember the frustration I had with it, but if you practice improvising, you'll be on the right paths.

You'll soon start to make little licks and riffs using the scale, then over time, because of them, you will remember which notes are in it

I dont know if you're directing this at me or just said in general, but I really wasnt asking a question for my own benefit for learning how to play. I was just asking to see what most guitarists do out of curiosity.

I know how to use scales. But im breaking out of the scale patterns and im going for the memorization of the key signature its self. I just wanted to see how many other guitarists on this board do that, or how many just remember the patterns.

I think the most stuff is in my fingers. I've gotten so used to play scales so my fingers just runs away... So you could say that i only remember the pattern.

I'm a music buff, but when I'm playing guitar I don't give a fuck what scale I'm playing.
