Buying Pickups/electronics thread

I just wanted to make a starter thread to clear up all the little individual ones.
but anywho...

my bass has been acting up lately.
ive bought new cables and replaced the strings to eliminate anything that might be coming from them
but...
even if i just slightly bump the cable on the input of the bass it makes a loud pop sound with a crunch in it..
also when I have my volume up on my amp it sounds like someone is crinkling a paper bag constantly..
and last and most annoying is that when I tap or play at all it sounds rough and abrupt, not warm like Im looking for.
as though im playing on glass.

any suggestions on what I might need to adjust or purchase to solve these problems?

Not that I know anything significant about this kind of stuff, but it sounds to me like your input jack it loose and/or messed up.

is there a way to do a quick fix on this (open up the back panel and tighten with a wrench?)

A friend of mines guitar has a similar problem. Open up the cavity and unscrew the jack so u can take it out. Take a look at the wires connecting to it and make sure that they arent fraying or coming unsoldered. However, sometimes the jack itself could just be busted in which case it needs to be replaced.

What kind of bass are you using? If I know what kind of bass you are playing I could recommend the kind of pickups you would need to get the tone you are after.

im almost certain there is a wiring problem such as the soldering coming undone somewhere.
