Lasting Impression

I was at the cemetery weeding the relatives and getting disgusted that my dad's headstone wasn't footed the way it was supposed to be. There was a lot going on there for it being so without life and it inspired me. I used to go to the nearby cemetery to write frequently so I'm comfortable there.

"Lasting Impression"

Crazy diamond shining in the rough
Thinking about the disappearance of the stone
Flat on the earth buried in tuliptree petals
Shaded and sheltered by its branches
Wanting more
Wanting it to raise
To not fade in time

Turned the bend as the guitar bled it's tune
Quietly as the mottled blocks stole my glances
Stoic and firm as if time would never take it
Water bottle perched near the urn near the door
Spilling with flowers
Announcing it's presense
Not fading in time

Catching my eye to the point of tears
There sat a man of no age
Sat on a tombstone, hands on top of his bowed head
I wanted to stare, capture the image
Yet not wanting to shatter his moment
Faceless, but poiniant
Not fading in time

Shine on you crazy diamond

I like it. Except for both the crazy diamond parts.

I personally like going on walks for inspiration. There's a path that takes you on a semi-circle around the outside of Ballater alongside the river. Took it the other day. Felt really peaceful by the end. Partly because I was doing meditative breathing. Felt quite inspired too.

Good to read some comments. The reason that the "crazy diamond" was included in it was because that's what happened to be playing on the radio while I was driving through after I left the family graves. I had the volume really low, but it still seemed to fit the scenerio. Since this is a personal piece in which I wanted to preserve the memory I included it.

It's not the best you have done in the context of wording melody and technicality. But it's got atmosphere. Like any good poem, it gives a good share of story, answers and unanswered questions at the same time.
