Yeah, but technically the tree and all that's pagan ritual, and it's on the date of an old pagan holiday(see, Christ cant've been born on new year's AND christmas, could he?), so why the hell do the Christians celebrate it? Cause we all like fuckin presents and feasting and drinking man, and a good excuse is a good excuse. Plus, it's become pretty much a cultural event, and even us Jews get to be part of the culture. Nah, I'm not exactly the religious guy around here, just get to be a jew cause my mother was one. I'm the one everyone is shocked when they hear I'm jewish, then forget until the next time I mention it, when they get to be shocked again.
And there are also really religious, and sorta dumb, christians out there who get stuck on the whole 'pagan holiday' thing and dont celebrate it either. I think a lot of jews who dont celebrate it are either pretty damn serious in the religion or live in a country where it's not such a big thing. Like Israel.
Anyways, yeah, I'm big on the presents thing. I think presents are a good idea, and beat the hell out of the alternative gift ideas: venereal diseases. I'll take a present over sypholis any day.
