Help picking a new bass

I'm looking into getting a new four string bass guitar, but not wanting to spend to much money. I've narrowed it down to three Fender basses that I'm looking at.
The first is a Fender Jaguar Bass. I've only played one twice, but I loved it and found myself getting around the fretboard much easier than on several of Fender's other basses.
The second is a Fender Mustang. Honestly...I just like the thin neck..and probably won't even get this bass..It sounds to punchy and the tone is light.
The Final is the Mark Hoppus Signature Bass..A friend of mine has this bass and I've played it a few times, but I don't know much about it. It had great tone and sounded great. I've also read several reviews on this bass that were almost all positive.

I don't know a whole lot about any of these three basses, but I figured someone around here has to know something about them. So..Any comments would be greatly appriciated.

IMO I would definitely go with the jaguar
if you like the first and the third very well then go with the non signature model
that way when you reach claypool status you can have a cassius signature fender jaguar instead of a fender mark hoppus, cassius signature jazz bass.

also can someone maybe add an opening post to this and make it sticky
we dont have a buying new bass thread yet like the guitar one does.

I can see it now..Everyone flocking to the local guitar stores to buy the Justin Dawson Signature Jag Bass...Actaully..Cassius sounds cooler so..we'll go with that.

I'd get a Warwick, Spector or a Fender jazz bass

I'd recommend trying out Ibanez, Schecter, Fender, Musicman, Modulus, Spector and if you can afford it.. Warwick!

Hate the Mark Hoppus signature bass, looks revolting.. but each to their own!

For not too much money, the Ibanez SRX basses are great for metal (assuming thats what you are playing). Also you cant go wrong with a gold ole' Standard Fender Jazz bass.

+1

I also like the ibanez ergodyne and fender aerodyne (as recently pictured in the photo book thread). I believe warwick also makes a cheaper line called the rockbass. I havent played one but it might be something to check out. There are also some cheaper schecters and ESP's which are alright, although I would probably go with the other ones first.

Try some Peaveys too. They make some good low price basses.
