question about esp guitars
hey if anyone could help me with this, it would be great. i have done a lot of research on guitars and played a bunch and ive narrowed it down to two:
ESP LTD MH-400 Electric Guitar, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...itar?sku=516684
or ESP LTD MH-400NT Electric Guitar
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...tar-?sku=516685
they are pretty much the same except the first one has a Floyd Rose licensed tremolo and the second one doesn't. im leaning towards the first one but some people say the floyd is a pain to deal with so i'm wondering if its worth it for me to spend some time figuring it out since ive never used one before or to just go with the second esp so i dont have to deal with it. thanks for the help.

Just think about how much you would actually use the trem. If you think you'll use it a lot, go for it. It'll only suck the first few times you change strings until you get the hang of it. And if you decide its a hassle and dont use trem too much you can always block it. So I say go for it.

if i had to choose..... i definitely couldnt resist the neck through AND string through design of the 400NT. the sustain would be great. plus im not a big fan of trems..

isn't there a god damn thread for this shit already?
Anyways I would go with the tremolo because of its better versatility...and kick ass sounds you can get from the whammy bar.

Remember.
If you have a trem you can choose not to use it.
If you dont have a trem theres never any reaching for the trem arm if the mood ever takes you.
Would you rather have something you dont need or not have something when you need it?

and floyds aren't any harder to change strings, really. i can change mine quite fast. and i only tune my strings once per set of strings. after the night that i put new ones on, i don't need to tune again til i put another set on.

I've never had a trem and probably never will. And I get along fine without it. The fixed bridge on the NT will give you better sustain, too.

They're both mahogany set-necks have active pickups, you won't have any problem with sustain on either one. I'd get the trem axe because I love superstrats with floyds, a strat with a TOM just seems... lame to me. Plus the blue QM top is gorgeous as well as the inlays. Either way you can't go wrong, but I suggest the trem if you plan to use it. But if not get the fixed bridge or a different guitar.
Even if I don't divebomb all the time, I prefer to have it available if I please on at least 1 of my guitars.

One thing to thing about, do you like to change tunings often? If so, then the tremolo will be your worst nightmare.

Unless you block it for alternate tunings, but keep the same string tension when you decide to go back to that original tuning with the same guage/brand strings.

exactly. i wasn't sure about getting a guitar with a trem either, but i got it and i don't regret it. and if it ever craps out or i get sick of it, i will block it off or get one of those tremel-no things.

Hmm if it were up to me I would go for the trem because I have trems on all my guitars and love them, but I would never get an ESP/LTD but that's IMO.
However for you if you really want one then go for the trem one. Because as already mentioned just because your guitar has a trem it doesn't mean you have to use it. Just find a tunning your band usually uses or a tunning that you are most confortable with and then set your trem to that tunning. However if you really change tunnings often then block off the trem and tune away.

i'd recommend going for the one without the trem, because i don't trust that kind of esp trem. go for an ibanez with a real edge bridge, or something with an OFR or nice khaller. otherwise, you may find a ton of trouble with a licensed floyd that isn't quite as reliable as those i just mentioned.

Trems shouldn't be blocked. There should be laws! Buy a fixed bridge if this is what you intend to do.
I personally like the finer tuner screws on trems, but now you can get tune-o-matic bridges with them, so there is no need to buy a trem equiped guitar just for those.
