Aeon
Hey
dunno if any of you guys have heard this band, but im becoming a pretty big fan.
Its semitechnical death...kinda in the likes of Bloodbath.
I had never heard of them before...I got a sampler CD from Century Media and it had them on it. Good stuff.
I suggest the album "Bleeding the False" if you intend to take a listen.

the quasi-Deicide lyrical themes (even cornier to be honest) and the vocals bring them down a couple of notches.
on the other hand, the production is one of the best i've ever heard for a DM album.

Haha yeah same here, I always just laugh when listening to GGHIH. I'm not a fan of the vocals either, they're like Behemoth, not really growling but just yelling angrily.

They really don't sound like anything I've ever heard, but I can compare their lyrical themes to Deicide.

Read my original post. I say that they are similar to Bloodbath. However, Bloodbath is kinda the newer face of Death metal. Lyrics you can understand...and the music is semi technical, however not as much as necrophagist.
If you havent heard Bloodbath then you are SOL :P

Actually, under careful analysis of his post, Severed Saviour is pretty much it's own sentance.

They are advertised on the internet, so they cant be underground.
http://metal-archives.com/band.php?...8261ae2ae939a26
That, and I wacked the phrase Defaced Creation into my p2p program and got over 10 hits (Excluding the Punget Stench song) within 3 seconds.
(The only issue here is that, from memory, Transient refuses to use a p2p program)
Oh, and one final thing that ammuses me even more than your underground grind elitism is that you have your AIM screen name in your profile.

underground elitism?
lol.... As far as Defaced Creation not being undeground, how can u say that? Hardly anyone has heard about them except for the ol' folks into the swedish death metal scene. All of the new kids in the genre never heard of them.
Bleeding the False was also the weakest Aeon material ever. The guitar tone is weak and trebly, but when u listen to their previous effort Dark Order; its a continuation of the previous band Defaced Creation. I hope on the next album Aeon get a better sound.

I'm not talking about Severed Savior, screw them. MTM was actually right about them and their generic metal. I was just defending Aeon's originality.

Well, I haven't heard Aeon outside of a powertab or two, but Severed Savior are in no way generic in the way that, say, Liturgy are.

Because it's a classic and it's just fucking awesome. Legion was one of the first and best death metal albums I've ever heard. I can't just pass off it's sentimental value to some other satanic death metal band that happens to sound a lot like deicide. I'm not saying I don't like Aeon, they're fucking great I've been listening to them quite a lot lately, but they fail to surpass the the greatness that is DEICIDE!!

Damn right, Alvaro. In addition, the whole album appears to be made up of one riff:
------------------
------------------
------------------
-------5----------
-3-4-3-3-3-4-3-2-
-1-2-1---1-2-1-0-
...which then gets tremelo'd after four bars.
...And Liturgy are more original (and less generic) than Severed Savior? Sure, SS are hardly Wormed-like in their originality, but they certainly don't succumb to the worn out cliches that befall so many other brutal death bands.
[Tim: I've changed my mind on Disgorge's generic leanings, too]

That is basically just a propaganda post. You could say pretty much the same thing for every death metal genre. I could say that a lot of techical death metal bands (including Severed Savior) just play a bunch of wanky riffs and have zero song writing riffs. For melodic death metal I could just say that every song has a structure riff and a lead played over it, which is what a lot of melodic death metal bands do, like In Flames. You see? the door swings both ways. I wasn't saying I like Liturgy but their crapiness actually makes them more original because you can actually point them out of a lot of brutal death metal bands, I don't think I could with Severed Savior in their category. I'm also not saying I don't listen to technical death metal, it's one of my favorite genres.

I don't think it's a "propaganda" post at all. The rest of your post backs this up as you say it can apply to all genres. Hence my post does not permeate a myth or falsehood, but a fact that generic bands tend to play the same tired riff ad infinitum and are then copied by other generic bands who follow suit. Liturgy just happened to be the example I was thinking of at the time.
I can't think of another band who compose riffs like Cryptopsy, or Suffocation or Nile or one who utilizes counterpoint quite as well or melodically as Gorgasm. Nor can I think of a band that's as crazy as Goratory or as discordant as Gorguts. All of these bands eschewed the truisms relating to the dross of their genres as do, I believe, Severed Savior simpy because I can hum their tunes all day - both brutal and "wanky" parts alike.
Well, that's my opinion and I ain't shifting from it. I wouldn't expect you to shift from yours either so we'll chalk it off to subjectiveness.
