Seymour Duncan JB's vs. EMG 81's (for bridge pu) pick one
If this has already been done, eat me. I don't want to look through 6 million topics to find it. If not, please pick one and explain why if you like. I like SD.

no specific sound....just want to know what your preference is. In fact, state your favorite pickup not just S.D. or EMG.

For me... EMG 81/85. I've used SD pups and they are ultra smooth, but if you want attack bite then EMG are the way. You should play both passive and active and get feel of what you like. Some love passives other love actives. Its all taste and what you can do with what you can afford.
FYI: Go with EMG

Depends what you play, but those 2 are on VERY different levels. JB is mostly for rock and is a real all-rounder. EMG-81 is very hot and will do fine for death and thrash, but so will plenty of very hot passive pickups and still be more versatile.
Some passive alternatives the EMG-81:
SD Invader
Dimarzio X2N
Duncan Distortion
Dimarzio Tonezone(not ridiculously hot, but very powerful and balanced(warm too)).
Don't go with EMG's without trying them first, you'll be disappointed like I was.

bravo, brainsforbreakfast
I actually have S.D. and Emg's in several of my guitars and I was just trying to see what other people like. Just a survey of you guys/gals.......I think Duncans beat the shit out of EMG's imo.

I like Dimarzios more than anything. Particularily the tonezone in thin sounding guitars and the X2N and PAF Pro.
