Ampeg SS70 head into a Power Amp

Well it hits the early suffo tone dead on, now heres a question, it has a preamp out port. Do i need a load? or is it safe to just turn the bitch on and let my power amp do all the work (the SS70 is a head BTW)

That is a good question, but consider this. The Ampeg's poweramp is apart of it's tone and will be changed if you use a different poweramp.

I would keep your setup as it is. If you need more volume and power then get a Shure SM57 and mic the ampeg to an external poweramp. That way you maintain your core tone setup seperate from your sound reenforcement setup.

Alrighty Ill use a 2x12 and put it next to my drummers head, he always complains about needing a monitor!

Going to try that tommorow and report back, for all you Suffo tone fans you should invest in one of these Ampeg Solid States! God damn!

hell even if it dont work right it doesnt even break up that much till 7 or 8

Solid state amps are not to be underestimated. They have a tone all there own. There are both cheap solid state and tube amps, but there are also quality made solid state amps to match well made tube amps. I like Randall amps myself and they happen to be solid state amps. I like tube amps to, but personally I really like the way most S.S. amps sound.

I think micing your amp is the best way to go. Even when recording, micing the speaker provides great sound. The Shure SM57 is the best for both live and recording of guitar. Many many bands and albums you listen to have likely been recorded using them. They are very clean mics with great responce.

Be sure to look up how to mic your speaker. There might be a few tricks you can pick up about micing if you have never done it before.

Randall is the epitome of s.s amplifers in production IMO.
