Filling in the Gaps

Alright so I'm working on repainting my guitar and filling in 2 gaps on the body that use to hold pickups and I was wondering does it matter what kind of wood is put into the holes? The body is made out of basswood, so would basswood be the best or can I just get a 2by4 and use it instead?

Yeah

Try and use a similar wood I guess, don't go and use pine or anything...

I could ask my luthier friend, he actually did this on a guitar of his, so he'd know.

the ideal would be the basswood from the same piece your guitar was made of, but that is pretty impossible, so just basswood. And it should be a reeeeaaaly tight fit, no space and stuff. You could glue it, but i'm not so sure what glue might do to your sound though..

If its just for painting... then don't put anything in the holes...

and anyway, if it's just for painting (your thread question wasn't too clear) who gives a fuck what you shove in there?

i don't want the sustain and the sound to get fucked if I put in a type of wood that isn't good for stuff.

It is getting painted and so I want to fill these gaps so that when I paint it, it looks like the guitar only ever had 1 pickup in it.
