Favorite Time Signature(s)?
Well, at least it's something to talk about.
QUESTION: What's your favorite time signature? Do you have a reason why? And what are some badass songs/riffs or even bands that come to mind when you think of certain ones?
Of course, 4/4 is the most common and a lot of fun, but I think 6/8 is fucking awesome. Just something about it that jerks the riff around and makes it have more feeling. And if you add in some triplets and palm mutes here and there, it can sound pretty chaotic but heavy. 5/8 is nice as well, though it gets annoying if repeated for a long time. As for examples, throughout the "Nothing" album by Meshuggah there's a lot of shifting between time signatures (for that matter, most of their stuff does), and when they use those two specifically it just crushes the balls out of it (of course, this is probably half to do with the 8-string guitars).

favorite is probably 4/4 and 12/8 just because I write in those 2 the most. I also like 3/4 because of the way it "moves." Hmmmm yeah

Holy shit that would hurt.
And I forgot about 12/8. I write alot in that too.
(to John) I just figured since there are rarely fresh topics discussed in the Guitar Zone, this would be an interesting thread about rhythmic diversity in metal and maybe even open people up to experimenting with new timings etc.

Oh my fucking god..... "[Just] something to talk about" is by far the most ridiculous reason to start a fucking dumb thread.
In addition to that, this thread has no merit to the topics of guitarists, guitar-related topics, or guitars.
