The Netherlands/Holland: Death metal's new Florida?
more and more there are great bands and albums taking off out of holland. the dutch death metal scene has its own sound, very much like Florida's back in the early days of death metal.
some popular (and awesome) dutch death metal bands
Brutus
Arsebreed
Severe Torture
Disavowed
Pyaemia
Creepmime
Prostitute Disfigurement
and of course my favorite, old schoolers PESTILENCE
discuss the metal scene there, your favorites..most anticipated...etc!

There are more popular death metal bands from other countries. I'd say Canada was the new Florida of Death metal way before Denmark. I just don't see Denmark as a country with many good bands

No freakin' way. Pyaemia have disbanded, the rest of the bands listed are average, at best (except Pestilence). Pyaemia, Disavowed and Arsebreed share(d) the same members anyway.
They'll have to do a lot more to be the new Florida. Like, by releasing a good album. Misanthropic Carnage is about as close as its got to a good album. Perceptive Deception was pretty decent too.

Ahh whats the difference. They're both two small european countries that you never hear from (except for the Belgians and their beer. They should get recognition for that).

Opened for Disgorge, good mix of melodic/brutal/tech death.
Ok so Australia has some good death metal and grind bands, but lets not jump to conclusions, as Australia being the new haven for extreme metal.
Oh and Inifinity, Crypt (Au) eat more balls than you. AND THAT'S A LOT.

Haha NOT TRUE
I almost never look and see where bands are from. And when I do end up hearing where the come from, it seems that all the best bands, Thrash and Death, come from the United States of America.

maybe thrash but even then german thrash sounds way different than american thrash, don't you agree
sodom + kreator / megadeth and anthrax
both thrash, both different on account of country of origin

Sodom plus Kreator divided by (Megadeth and Anthrax)? I don't follow.
It's really hard for a region today to have a sound similar in impact, etc, to the old Florida death metal scene, unless you happen to find the region in which a bunch of people are all spontaneously playing a new type of death metal that, to (our) outside ears, is so different a new title is needed for it. I also don't see anybody moving to the Netherlands to play death metal.
That said, it's not a bad idea to think about the various regions and their sounds. Just to give them titles like 'the new Florida of death metal.'

i meant sodom and kreator versus megadeth and anthrax but i think you knew taht regions today dont have neraly as much effect due to exposure on the internet. a florida band would have seen mostly only other florida bands reherase, recorded in florida studios, etc...but now you have bands doing all sorts of international things. listening to new bands from other countries, recording with foreign producers (who is it thats working with tue madsen now, metallica or megadeth or someone?). while that wasnt unheard of (metallica recorded MOP in copenhagen) it still was less common
still i believe region plays a roll (ask john holland)

I know what you meant. I was making a joke.
Yeah, Florida definitely had more of a genetic drift back in the day than is likely now.
John Holland's story has more to do with what happens when a sound has already become so big that it eclipses anything else that might come from the area. It's presumably what Florida was like when its creative load was shot and a bunch of poser bands stifled growth (or is like now). It's exactly what happened to the thrash scene, worldwide. But, inevitable as it is, it's not something you want to see happen.

Generally a region develops its own sound by having a number of bands that are interested in playing music (in this case metal) who, through their isolation from the mainstream and their exposure to specific local influences, end up, as if by accident, creating a new sound that tends to be common to the bands from that region. I called it genetic drift earlier because, well, that's basically what it is.
As Tranny noted, in the days of the internet it's harder to get that kind of isolation, and we have very few scenes that just seem to come out of nowhere almost full-formed, with a sound so new it's shocking.

They'll have to do a lot more to be the new Florida. Like, by releasing a good album. Misanthropic Carnage is about as close as its got to a good album. Perceptive Deception was pretty decent too.

Good bands but there are better deathmetalbands in holland:
- God dethroned!!!
(the best deathmetalband from holland NO DISCUSSION, their new lead gitarist (who's from around here) ISAAC DELAHAYE shreds like the best! look at his site for good tabs:
http://www.isaacdelahaye.be
occult
legion of the doomed (old-occult)
thanatos (not really known but very good)
sinister
pentacle
asphyx (i think they broke up)
altar!!! (great band, saw them live they CRUSH)
Although i am from belgium i must admit the dutch scene is very proffesional and organised.

Stone is the best band to come from Finland...and probably the only one that comes to mind. Except for Sotajumala.
I looked up Mephistipheles on soulseek, and got this . Can't get any info on it either. Anyone have any idea? Or just download and don't reply, that works for most people around here too.

hm raw death metal, i heard one album("wings of inferno") i must warn you that the production was very bad.
Its one of the weaker bands that i mentioned: if you want good dutch deathmetal go for god dethroned or the new legion of the damned, they have better technique & production.
