better preamp?
So, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but i'm becoming unhappy with my purchase of a rocktron prophesy. I actually really like the cleans and effects, but the distortion just doesn't do it for me. Maybe I'm just not setting it up right, but the best way for me to describe what is happening is the distortion doesn't sound saturated. It sounds almost as if the distortion is being applied ontop of a clean note, instead of being fluid. It's kinda hard to describe. When I listen to the samples at rocksolidamps, all the tones sound more natural, while the prophesy is lacking something. Like I said in my previous post I'm running it through a dbx 31 band eq and messed with the settings forever, still couldn't find what I'm looking for. If anyone has any suggestions on what to try either with my existing rig or maybe a different preamp, I will be anxious to hear.

I loved the prophecy, but not so much for the distortion. It is over-priced.Consider.
A)Buying another preamp, such as a mp-1,e530,psa,jmp,ect,and use it along with the prophecy as a source of distortion, and use the prophecy for clean/effects.
B)Sell the prophecy, and get one of the above, and a decent effects processor such as a g-force.
C)A cheaper alternative could be to buy a mesa bottle rocket,ENGL tube toner,or a hughes and kettner tube pedal/preamp and use that as a source of gain.
Though,if you pay that much for a peice of gear,it should be 100% what you want.
Hope that helped.

Well, the Prophesy utilizes both pre and post Eqs, so I reccomend you fuck with them both. For instance, if you want a really bassy suffocation type tone, set the channel to Mega Drive and then cut lower mids on the pre and add lower mids on the post. I promise you that you can get a baby crushing tone out of that thing if you mess with it enough.
