power amp ventilation
I just purchased a new rig that consists of:
1. Furman Power conditioner
2. Korg dtr-1000
3. Dbx 31-band eq
4. BBE Sonic Maximizer
5. Rocktron Prophesy
6. Peavey Classic 120/120 power amp
My question is, what should be the placement of the different gear to allow optimal heat dissipation? I currently have them in a 12u grundorf in that order from the bottom up with a 1u space and vent plate between the power amp and preamp, is that as much as it needs?

That should be fine, my rack is 6u and full and no spaces between anything. Look at racks like petrucci, and you'll see that your heating issues are nothing of he an pull that off. Just make sure your poweramp has a good working fan in it.

Thanks for the help, but I guess what I'm really asking is if that will allow enough ventilation to keep my preamp from overheating due to the heat coming off the power amp. The power amp has vents in the front and on top, but yesterday during use I noticed that the power amp heated up pretty good, causing the bottom of my preamp to get heated. It wasn't extreme, but still, I've never used rack gear before and I just don't want to have something as electronically sensative as the prophesy preamp be exposed to high temperatures. If this is just me being anal, let me know.

My preamp is directly above my poweramp and its fine, i can feel it get hot, but its fine. The motherboard on my comp has been around heat of 80c from the processor so im sure a little transformer/powertube heat wont bother anything.

I always left a space or two free above the poweramp. If you have the space, then go for it.If not,I wouldnt worry about it.

I have a rack-mountable dual fan which kept my 2x800 watt poweramp cold when it was maxed out
