Sorry for me posting a thread similar to many on here, but meh.
So anyway, Im thinking of buying a new neck pickup for my RG 1527; i.e. basswood body, 7 string, tremolo bridge, and nice maple neck.
When I switch to the neck pickup for solos I no doubt get a definite solo style sound, but quite frankly its not what im looking for. It gives me a kinda Metallica / 80's, 90's heavy metal style.
This is ok, but I don't favour it.
What I would like is kinda a dreamy, beautiful, almost clean sound.. Do you get me? Its hard to think of many bands that get a sound like me... uh... maybe, sleep terror? Hate Eternal? So basically not a really screechy, screamy tone, but a softer, smoother tone.
Im definantly going passive. Ive got a EMG 81 / 85 setup in my Warlock and it does nothing for me.
I would probably be coupling it with a DiMarzio X2N-7 or similar, would a lower output pickup (im guessing) be shit for a very high output pickup? If I had them both on at the same time would the tone be crappier than just switching from neck pickup for solos and back to bridge for rythym? Hopefully someone out there knows...
What amps settings would I need to activate the smooth sorta tone? I know all amps are different, but basically what?.. lots of high, half mid, lots of bass, prescence... etc.???
One last semi-relevant question... Do active pickups use electro-magnets and passive pickups use bar magnets? This could be kinda obvious (hence the battery for active pups) but meh... and body know definantly?
Thanks....
