Black Sabbath question
Is it true the original members of Black Sabbath were christians? Many other music boards have said yes but im checking with you guys

Sabbath took their name from a film(Boris Karloff one I think) the story goes that Geezer had written a song called Black Sabbath inspired by said film and when they thought of changing their name from 'Earth' they chose this name.
They also said that they sang about 'dark' things because it seemed apt for the dark heavy music they were creating, it didn't seem right singing about how happy and pretty the flowers smelt over a riff like NIB.
Lots of 'god' references and Christian view points appear throughout the Sabs back catalogue(Geezer wrote the bulk of the lyrics) 'After Forever' being just one example.

All of Masters of Reality is fairly Christian, though by that point it seems to be as a reaction to their reputation as devil-worshippers (which was only enhanced when Anton Lavey basically threw the album release party for the self-titled when it came to the states). I'm fairly sure that Iommi wrote the lyrics to 'After Forever,' though. In any case, it's very Christian.

After all, at least the most of us here can agree that metalheads, as a rule, doesn't take the whole dark-and-devilish-thing thing very seriously. We probably wouldn't even do it if people weren't so damn upset by it.
And tritons are an awesome riff-writing technique; though I've never actually contemplated it as a way to lure out sexuality... gotta try that on a woman sometime.
