New Guy...Need help choosing a Death Metal amp and a favor
I like my metal zone into a clean channel amp, whether tube or solid state really is not a big factor I found for myself. I have some amp settings and Metal Zone settings that I want some people try on their equipment (maybe even make some clips to post on this thread for others to hear that do not own an MT-2). After trying this tone out for yourself, I want some recommendations on what amp I am leaning towards. A lot of you will say right away that only the metal zone into a clean channel will sound that way, but please do not blow me off that quickly. Get the vibe if the tone I am seeking, as well as pick attack dynamics, response etc. and think to yourself what type of guitar amps have you had experience with that mimmick this tone. I do want to take a step up from the MT2 into a clean channel because it is only good for certain things and this is the only way I know how to give a good comparison distortion characteristic and EQing for where I am looking to go.;
Clean channel settings; (THESE ARE ALL NUMBER SETTINGS ON THE DIAL OF THE KNOB ON THE AMP ITSELF)
bass between 7 and 8 on the dial
mids about 2.5
treble a little under #7 (like 6.5+)
volume turn up to suit (usually to get solid grit crunch)
Metal Zone Settings (THESE ARE O'CLOCK SETTINGS)
level 12+ o'clock
Low @ 4 o'clock
middle tad less than ( o'clock (like 8:30)
middle freq. @ 9 o'clock+
Distortion between 1 and 2 o'clock (like 1:45)
Thanks in advance-Jase

hahahahhaahahahahahahahahahahhaa
Edit : K Ive gotten that out of my system
1. I think your overestimating the "power" of the MT-2 a little too much, throw that thing in the trash.
2. Metaltabs.com is not a drive through, people arnt just gonna get a shit pedal and try it out on there amps to tell you how shitty it sounds.
3. Check out the search button, youll see lots of people like you (not as serious) talking about the MT-2.
4. I would have alteast gone around the forums a little and chat'd before i made a post like this, this being your first post your probably gonna get your ass flamed for somthing as gay as this.

Well, everyone would say get a decent amp, and I agree with that. But if you tried out some real gear, and this is the sound you like, more power to you.
But man, that's waaay to few mids, and the mid frequency is waay to high. Do you play black metal or something?

To the original poster : You sound like I did whenever I first started playing guitar, and had an AVT50 combo. A Digitech metal master through the clean channel ROARED. I mean, it was fucking TONE!
Then I lived and learned.
Now I have a PODXT plus a Carvin poweramp, and I'm a fully recovered pedal user. All I can tell you is that once you do get a good amplifier, you're not going to want to use a pedal for your distortion. Unless its a Roland JC-120.

i remember when i was happy with just my peavey rage 112 tone... and then happy with my marshall mg15dfx tone... and then happy with my deathmetal/grunge pedal --> marshall tone... and then my HM-2 --> marshall tone... yeah... now my spider II kicks it pretty well for my tastes... but i will soon trade it in with some cash to get me a tube stack and then i will probably spit on the spider's capabilities in future times.

OK. Well, I understand the reason for why some of the ignorant blasts I am receiving. I have been through the ropes a bit and know what your are saying. Anyway, every amp has their signature sound. If you tried the presets Of the amp on clean channel plus the MT2 settings (just to humor me if for anything) you would see what I am getting at sound dynamics wise. After trying this I doubt you would suggest me buying a Marshall JCM 800 a mesa mark IV or even a Mesa Dual rectifier. Instead I might get something like...WOW you really like solid state and after trying that sound I think randall or crate with a 31 band EQ and BBE sonic maximizer in the loop. Or this tube head is right up your alley. I do have a mesa 50 watt poweramp that I run a PodXT through and like it, and in the past I have also had a Digitech 2101 AND 2120 running through the same poweramp which was somewhat good, but I sold the 2 Digitech units because they were not really it for me. So without being a prick...can we get really serious on this one because this is a 8 year research expedition I am trying to come to an end to and buy some shit I really am looking for. I do have some bucks racked up...it's not like I am looking for something and can be told to "save up some money man," to be able to get what you want, I did that and am ready for the actual purchase.

Agreed. I brought my half stack over to this kids house so he could jam out on it. And he puts a fucking digitech multieffects pedal in front of the clean channel..... He thought he had a real good distortion sound. I nearly slapped the shit out of him. In fact i begged and pleeded with this kid to let me fix the shit up right.
Those who put pedals before a 1500+ amp = Fucking morons.
Not really realivant to this, but i'd definately say.. metal zone is not = to solid real tone.

My reponse to you is... Why do you care what amp makes this sound if you have "dialed in" the sound you already want?

I like the sound only at certain volumes which really get the amp going. I want the sound I am looking for to be naturally coming out of the amp and have a good time so to speak. THAT IS WHY I WAS VERY SPECIFIC ON MY SETTINGS I LISTED. I don't want to pound combo amps w/ an mt2 for the rest of my life, I want to purchase a really good amp head or rack equipment to serve the purpose I am looking for, AND just run with it. I guess no one that has a MT@ can take 5-10 minutes and try out what I am asking apparently to save me some sound OCD insanity. I don't know, I guess I will do some more research, try different forums that are really into this type of stuff.

check out the sansamp psa-1 preamp, and team it up with a good poweramp. you'll get super tight high gain buzzsaw s.s. sounds easy as hell. im not joking like razor sharp dimebag-ish tone.

This is pretty funny because I actually had a Crate with a 31 band EQ and my current Aphex at some point.
Well, back to being serious : If you're saying you want your low-volume level MT-2 sounds at a much much higher volume ( then again I'm sleep deprived ), prepare to be disappointed. Once you crank it you WILL be fiddling with the knobs all over again, because amplifiers just respond differently as you juice them ( the more you turn them up the more bass you get out of them, for instance ), and the human ear becomes more sensitive to mid frequencies as amps are juiced. This is why playing a small combo with scooped mids sounds good and why keeping the same settings at high volumes are just not going to work.
Maybe I'm just sleepy, but I'm not sure what you're asking for. What I'm getting out of re-reading everything is that you want to have an MT-2 in the clean channel of a gigging-grade half stack. If you're wanting to know what an MT-2 sounds like through a high-dollar rig, then go to Guitar Center and do it yourself, don't ask us to do it for you, because our opinion of how it sounds, good or bad, won't be yours, and when you buy all of the shit we tell you to there's no guaranteeing whether or not you'll like it. That and half of us who have half stacks don't even own distortion pedals anymore. Now its off to bed for me.
EDIT : Ok, I'm getting it more now. Basically, you're wanting us to try out an MT-2 through OUR amps, and then based on what we hear, recommend an amp that sounds like that.
Eh ...
Even still, you're better off going to a music store and tooling around with their merchandise.

Fuck it, im going to jam, ill dare pull out my old metalzone and brush off the 3 inches of dust, ill try it through the rig in my sig with your settings. I bought that metalzone like 6 years ago, I think I used it 4 or 5 times and never again. I kinda forget how craptastic it was.

Yes, that's a pretty good description, thanks for trying it out. I am thinking a Savage 120 over a Powerball because I like a tighter signal the savage 120's 6550/KT88 power section has. I am also seriously considering a Mako custom 100w head (Idon't know if they are tight enough for DM, but they have a BIG sound to them). Check them out at www.makoamplification.com , there is also sound clips somewhere on the page too.
