Peter uses the Bad Horsie 2.
Vader are one of my favorite bands, but I seriously think Litany is overrated. It was the first Vader album I got to like but after hearing the others... Litany doesn't have much variety. Still great though.
My favorite album is a tie between Revelations, De Profundis, and The Ultimate Incantation. Black to the Blind is close behind though. The Beast I think pretty much sucked, had few worthwhile songs, good thing they came back and kicked ass with Art of War! Can't wait to hear the next full length, Oath of War. I've seen them twice and I have one of their DVD's(plus a bunch of bootleged vids and shit), I'm a big fan.
... and my favorite song is a tie between SILENT EMPIRE, Wolftribe(Nergal sings in this one), and SOTHIS. But all of their covers from Terrorizer, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, ... god damn, all of their covers kick ass too and in many cases sound better than the original.
Oh yeah, go check out Dies Irae if you like Vader. It had Docent(RIP), and still has Mauser, Novy(on vocals), and Jacek Hiro(ex-Decapitated live guitarist).

I loved it. It's a lot like Altars of Madness for me, just not as great though. I think De Profundis is my favorite.
Vader seriously need to put out a new live album and take a break from constant standard EP-album-Ep-album releases and nonstop touring. Their old 1993 gig in Tokyo is pretty meh quality and has no newer songs.
Oh yeah the solo in REVELATIONS OF BLACK MOSES is gold, even though most of that song is dull. Vader don't do the slow sludgy Morbid Angel style thing well, they excel at thrashing.

Well I won't lie, it did take me a while to appreciate classics like Altars. You just gotta get past the whole "wow" factor and sort of forget about modern bands for a moment when listening to old shit. And once you get to like it, listening to Altars and listening to Annhialation of the Wicked won't make any difference. :P I'm not a long time death fan but I simply felt the need to appreciate old classic and solid bands before checking out a plethora of modern bands. In fact nowadays actually I think older bands had much more essence than most newer bands like Severe Torture, Bloodbath, Necrophagist and stuff. All great bands but they lack something for me, that vibe that there's no other band that sounds quite like them, I dunno hard to explain.
I like the wah sound too. Especially on Wolftribe and the new EP on "Lead Us" and "Death in Silence" I wish my Crybaby sounded like that. :P *mods crybaby* Peter's solos keep getting more and more melodic and better each album, definately a plus.

i definitely see your point.i dig a lot of old school classics, just not old vader and MA. i actually go into death metal in chronological order, jesus wept off the human waste ep was one of my first tastes of death metal! i worked my way up but old school dm is still some of my favorite - pestilence, cancer, malevolent creation, old gorguts, thats all a lot of fun to listen to for me
as for the leads yeah, they rule now. i actually figured out this is the war and it only took about 10 minutes so i figured nobody would want a tab of the riffs anyways. the solo is something like 708070 10 0 12 0 10 0 up the b string, if that makes any sense

Oh geez. Vader is the band I grew up on. Carcass introduced me to death metal, but Vader kept me hooked
Favs songs are probably A World of Hurt, Whisper, The Red Passage, Death in Silence, and Epitaph. I love all their stuff though
Fav album is probably Revelations, followed by Litany, then Black to the Blind, De Profundis, and Impressions in Blood. Impressions would probably be higher if it werent for all the cheesey lyrics

Impressions... the only cheesy lyrics were on "Warlords"("I am so mighty, I am so dark" LOL) and "God is Dead" IMO, just really childish for a mature band like vader, they're lyrics are usually MUCH deeper... But the rest of the lyrics are fine, especially "The Book"! Good grooves in that one...
Btw Vader are gonna be doing a re-recording of their old classics for their 20th anniversary next year! They haven't said which songs, but I'm guessing anything pre-Litany, as that one is pretty modern. I can't fucking wait to hear songs from their first 3 albums with even better production! They're one of the few bands who actually sound better with better production, some other bands sound completely different in a bad way when they get real hi fi production...
Some dude is also gonna write a biography on Vader and their history. There are some details at their site.
All Vader's EP's kick major ass, especially Blood and Reign Forever World(my first one, I suggest you noobs to Vader start here).
I am a HUGE fan... like you wouldn't believe. You don't come across too many people that are big Vader fans(by big I mean ppl who like more than Litany), despite them being so old and reknown.

Thats what I meant. Red Code also seems cheesy to me (RED IS THE CODE...THE CODE IS RED!!! wtf), but their titles are also pretty corny too. I mean common. The Book? They Live!!!! ? WTF? I hate how Vader feels the need to incorporate exclamation marks in their song titles. Some of the lyrics on Litany were rather cheesy as well, I thought
But other than that, I agree with your comments about the lyrics. I usually enjoy em. Whisper in particular has some pretty well thought out stuff.

IT'S TIME! IT'S VADER TIME!
Reign Carrion is my favorite song and Ultimate Incantation is my favorite album. I guess I gravitate more toward a thrash/death sound than the straight up death of their later stuff.

Haha, when I was in Poland for the summer in 2000 to meet the other half of my family, I did not see one metalhead who was not wearing a Vader shirt for more than 10 minutes.
Their cover album is one of the best tribute albums I ever heard and even their demo "Mobid Reich" is CLASSIC.

Haha, well that's Poland so that's a diff. story. I see lots of people with Wormed and Avulsed shirts here... I was talkin more about in the US, not a big oldschool death metal following there.

I fuckin love Ultimate Incantation, and that song. It's why I'm so excited about the re-recording album of the old songs they're going to put out next year. Imagine all those classics with better production and a lower guitar tuning.
Their demo is the best metal demo I've ever heard too, as well as that cover album, because almost all the cover songs on it got me into said bands!. They've never put out a shite album, the Beast was sort of a bump in the road though but they caught up fast with that last EP and Impressions.

De Profundis was the first album I had and it's still my favorite. Black to the Blind is a very close second. I guess I just really dug that mid-nineties era.
