cryptopsy
i dont know much at all about these guys, but i caught one of their videos (its off of their newest, theyre flitting about the forest, not sure of its name though). their obviously very talented players, but it had to be one of the worst songs ever. my long winded question is; is this comparable to their other work? i wondering if i should bother checking them out. thanks.
ps i assume its a given that lord worm sucks beyond all that has ever sucked. im asking more about the music.

They have had different singers on
Whisper Supremacy
...and then you'll beg
None so live (not to be confused with none so vile)
Lord Worm is certainly an aquired taste, but I like him.

Defenitly check out WhisperSupremacy\AndThenYoullBeg first, theyre easier to get into, I didnt like NoneSoVile when I first heard it, now I love it. The music is insane.

I hate the vocals from Whisper/And then You'll Beg, Lord Worm does suck on that album, but on the earlier stuff, he was good. That song that you saw was probobaly their worst and no other songs by theme are anything like that. None So Vile is the most brutal album ever.

Have you ever heard of Devourment?
None So Vile has it's moments, but Whisper Supremacy and And Then You'll Beg are far more accomplished albums. However, get Blasphemy Made Flesh first and then progress through the albums in order - it will be easier to grasp and adapt to the evolution of the band this way.

Yeah you're right. You watched the 'The Pestilence that Walketh in Darkness' video.
On youtube i posted many comments such as...'Worst Cryptopsy song ever' etc.
That is such a fucking shit song.
Get the fuck back on youtube or wherever you saw that vid, and download songs / videos such as 'Cold Hate, Warm Blood', 'Graves of The Fathers' , 'Phobophile' , ' Slit Your Guts', 'Loathe'. Hell, any Cryptopsy song before the album Once Was Not. Then bask in the heaven.
And yes, Old LordWorm was much better than new lord worm, hell, do you know many vocalists that can pull of 26 second screams (see 'Open Face Surgery') ?... I think not. He was fucking awesome on None So Vile and Blasphemy Made Flesh, but the good days are over, and for once, believe it or not, ill have to say that DiSalvo shouldve fucking stayed in Cryptopsy. Fucking so bad that his wife got cancer or something. Damn fucking bad.
Peace out, Basstendencies.

The Pestilence That Walketh In Darkness has its use within the context of Once Was Not ... I think they just should have used Carrionshine or Adeste Infedelis as a single.

Yeah, but I still think None So Vile is better all the way, and yeah very fucking brutal. Devourment are good, inhaled vocals are awesome as hell but they aren't really what I'd class as 'brutal' exactly. (and yes, I have acknowledged the other instruments).

Oh for sure, I actually don't mind the song myself along with the rest of that album, it's a really good album.

In terms of brutality/heaviness, I don't think there's any comparing Butcher The Weak and None So Vile.
Especially that last track Devourment put out, did they start doing acid or something?

None so Vile kicks ass... except for lord worm. If they had a decent vocalist on that album, it would move from being in my top 50 favorite death metal albums, to being in my top 5 or 10.

whats up steve?? yea i wasn't too big on vocals on and then you'll beg...i've got that one if you want to hear it, but i'd say cold hate, warm blood and phobophile are my two favorite songs by them..both really good (vocals not as much on phobophile)

Judging Cryptopsy on that Pestilence song is just about the worst decision you could make.
Whisper Supremacy and And Then You'll Beg are absolutely fucking incredible albums, whilst None So Vile is only on a slightly lower level.
These days I am of the opinion that Mike DiSalvo kicks arse. So did Lord Worm on NSV, but he sounded like shit on OWN. However I saw Cryptopsy live last week and I can tell you Lord Worm sounded a shitload better live than he did on the last album. In particular, he got that Crown Of Horns opening scream down really well.

youre 100% right about that cloaca. after hearing a bit more of their catalouge i was pretty confused as to why they'd release pestilence... as a video/single, as most of their stuff smokes pretty hard.thanks guys.

I was listening to Once Was Not yesterday and just realized how bad the production is, along with Worm's vocals. The snare sound is horrible and the drums need to be tuned way down. Alex should have recorded a second guitar too because one just isn't cutting it. Eric's bass tracks sounded good though, so congrats to him and shame on the rest of them. So only song I actually cared for on that album is Endless Cemetary, the rest of them are just mediocre. After that I popped in None So Vile just to erase the bad memories of listening to that album, haha.

I think the album itself is good, aside from the production (which just ruins it). But It doesn't even come close to WS or NSV.

Cryptopsy owns. Period. Every album, every track. Pure, unrelenting brutality.
Some of my favorite tracks:
Crown of Horns
Orgiastic Disembowelment
Pathalogical Frolic
Swine of the Cross
Screams Go Unheard
...And Then It Passes
In The Kingdom Where Everything Dies, The Sky Is Mortal
White Worms
Emaciate
Depths You've Fallen
Equivalent Equilibrium

The snare's a bit annoying but that's the only thing that bugs me, and it barely bugs me. Oh and the fact that they were mixed too loud.

I was listeing to once was not this morning , and my god every time he starts singing farting whatever the fuck his doing arrgh, puts me off. His voice is just plain horrible. If they had a different singer it may do them justice. Even though i cant stand the band, they have awesome moments on that album then it get rulened by shitty break downs.

I wouldn't be posting in this thread unless i hated them or loved them, and how can you hate Cryptopsy?

They should have use "In the Kingdom Where Everything Dies, The Sky is Mortal" as their single. I hated the pestilence... One of the worst songs on the album. Doesn't give the best impression of the band. All other songs on Once Was Not own, though.

i think it was worms vocals in particular that i disliked on that song, but in the months since ive listened to a good amount of cryptopsy, and am fast becoming a fan. this has got to be one of the best rhythm sections anywhere.

Once was Not is certainly my favourite of the lot, and I even enjoy the new LW vocals, despite them being much weaker than earlier. If you want to hear the extent of his vocals, listen to Open Face Surgery.

True, especially for his almost 30 second scream. That scream is orgasmic. It's a fun song to play, too.
