I live here in Orlando, right up the street from full sail> I can tell you, they are one of the best schools for recording arts. But let me tell you, the Associates program runs about 35,000 dollars, not including any living expenses you will incur here. The chepaest apartment you will find around the school is like 700 a month. Orlando is quite expensive and Florida does not pay shit for wages. he program is an accelerated course. You bascailly will be doing classes and labs all hours of the day for a year straight.
Be warned, the industry is extrememly hard to break in to. You REALLY have to want it, live it and breathe it. You gotta be willing to drop 35k and then intern possibly for a year or 2 at no cost. I tell you, I have seriously met at least 100 people who have gone to that school, I think I know 5 who got jobs, 1 of them making what you might consider decent money. Every kid that goes there thinks they are going to be the shit, and I have seen it were it just rips em up and spits them out.
Now, don't let it discourage you, I just try to steer anyone away from a 35 thousand dollar debt just starting out in life. People do make it, but it is hard work, and something you shouldn't dive in to to "see if I can make it work, I think it would be cool!", because even if you are the shit, there are 1000 more people who are better, will work longer hours for less money, and the demand for producers and engineers is usually pretty low. Most studios have there hosue guy, and just need some occasional help from time to time.

A very good friend of mine just started Full Sail this last February. He's going for recording arts. He said 90% of the ppl in his classes are into trance and house music ?!? Anyways, any specific information you want, I can relay.

I currently attending SouthPlainsCollege earning an associates in Sound Technology. SPC has some great studios. I think there are more on the way. Its in a little tiny town called levelland in texas. NOt that bad if you ask me, and lubbock is like thirty miles away from here. So if your a partier or whatever... thats probably where you'll be.
Just check it out southplainscollge.edu

hmm...Lord Pj. That is kinda scary. I wanted to do it because I thought it would help me as far as with my own band....but if its that hard to make money with recording arts, maybe I should just get a degree in information technology or something instead. I don't want to bust my ass for peanuts..

ust go for an audio engineering degree, doesnt have to be at a 'recording' school, one of my freinds did that(well hes in the middle of it now), and it will allow you to work in a studio (if you wanted to) but it would also allow you to work in other places, like on movies getting the sounds right, or for commericails, tv stations etc, anything that needs a pro audio sound

Like I said man, don't let it discourage you. If you truly have the drive, and you feel you NEED to do this with your ife, that nothing else will suffice, then go for it. I would check in to other schools however, there are plenty out there that have recording arts. Full Sail is WAAAAAAY more expensive then any other place. Some community colleges offer the course. If you sit down with any producer or engineer, they will tell you. Once you have the paper, it's not so much about your degree, it's about selling you. Your attitude, work ethic, communication skills etc. That's the best advice I can give you. But either way, you almost ALWAYS start as a grunt, interning, bouncing from studio to studio untill you find that one who happens to be looking for some help. Once your in, it's up to you to shine. It always helps to know someone in the industry as well. If I was you, and I had backing(parents, scholarships or whatever), get an Assoicated or Bachelors first in some other field, get your self settled in life, some money in the bank, and then make the attempt at the recording arts thing. That way you don't waste what could be your only shot at an education, and will have something else to fall back on. Best of luck brother.

just spend all the time you would in school playing guitar instead, after a couple years you'll be like all the other big shots(vai, gilbert, stach, malmsteen, ect..), and get with some huge signed band and all the money and babes you could want.
