The Progressive Metalcore Movement
Well it's been in effect for a while now but it's finally taken me too and I've realised the talent and unique sounds of some of these bands. I'm talking bands such as Between the Buried and Me, Converge, Circle Takes The Square, Parkway Drive, The Red Chord, and the rest of these angsty art fags that are trying to pay off their university art, philosophy and expressionism degrees with their artsy, philosophical, expressive, lyrics and music presented in an 'obscure' and 'unnapproachable' fashion which is just sooo hard to take in and that people will misunderstand completely. Like fuck, wankers! I see where you're coming from, I see through your shouted lyrics and your dumb fashion sense. Cool music though. So what are some of the views on this scene and shit and what's favourite bands bla bla bla bla you get the point.
I like:
BTBAM
Converge
bla bla bla
Your turn! Ps, I'm been drinking. Took me like an hour ot write this.

You should post drunk. What you shouldn't do is make your presence on the board felt mostly through annoying posts criticizing the existence of this or that thread. Cut that shit out, Transient, and stay the fuck out of threads you think are stupid.
Of the bands you listed, I like Converge. I don't know Between the Buried and Me. I hate phrases like 'progressive metalcore,' but 'progressive' is not a self-defeating term. It's an imprecise term that got confused around the 80's/90's switch and is for that reason fairly useless, but that's not the same thing.

you guys are a bunch of ignorant twats, apparantly, BTBAM is a phenomenal band. the whole genre cant statistically suck, so right there we have a fallacy in your argument. glass casket is also a superb band. The red chord is heavy as the two ton meat sac known as rosie o'donnel. before you write off a band cus of what genre they are in, listen to the fucking music, because i guarantee you that even in he "pop-punk" and "emo" scenes there is atleast one band that will make you cream your panties.

Self defeating as in once it's published, it's not progressive anymore, it becomes added to the giant collective of music. Once something is called revolutionary, it ceases to be.

Yes, thank you.
I can understand listening to it and not like it... but half of the "metalcore" bands are heavy as fuck, which for half of this forum, is grounds for a band being "FUCKING GREAT."
Even farther than that, without a label, at least 60% of people here who bash it would worship it. Most people here are guilty of the same kind of idiocy that makes people say things like "I HATE FAGGOTS CAUSE THEY ARE GAY, AND BEING GAY IS WRONG."
Yes, maybe you'll see a connection between "metalcore" and the "gay" reference. Listen to what you think is good. Don't be stupid. There, I'm done.

You are a fucking idiot.
METALCORE AND EMO ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
Plus 95% of the stereotypes about "hardcore/metalcore/emo" are unfounded and untrue.
Once again i point out that I don't care if you hate it.
Just hate it for the right reasons.

Don't mind Transient, he's got a fucking stick up his ass squished in by hemroids.
I'm really starting to get into this genre, so far The Ion Dissonance has been my favorite.

Yes, I've realized that before.
Unearth, August Burns Red, Between the Buried and Me, and a few others have really stood out to me. I'm more into the spaz/grind sub-division of it all though.

Good thread. I'm a big Converge fan and The Red Chord is great (although I think both bands are not metalcore). The people this "genre" attracts is becoming a major thorn in my ass because lately its been spurting out bands left and right that are complete carbon copies of each other (similar to the "melodic death metal" thing). It also often carrys the slogan "the 'techer' the better" which makes me want to pour Drano in my ears and jump into a bathtub holding a toaster.

That's not semantics, that's bad logic. So bad I don't even want to waste the server space it would take to explain why, but I will. Something doesn't cease to be revolutionary when it's recognized as such; it ceases to be revolutionary when it's codified as such. Similarly, something that's progressive - and this isn't even how the musically descriptive term 'progressive' is used, so I'm refuting an irrelevant argument - only ceases to be so when, if ever, this 'giant music collective' catches up to and reabsorbs it. This doesn't happen automatically.
However, in the way we describe music - and this is semantics - 'progressive' is just a word that ties together a bunch of groups with a sound that, in general consensus, they have in common. How closely the word resembles the music doesn't really matter in this practice.

Good thread, Myles. I think this genre is up there with my favourites to listen to due to the challenging nature of the main protagonists. At the moment, it's just about the most creative and free-flowing genre with bands such as the aforementioned Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan and the Red Chord.
Also try out earlier but now defunct exponents such as Botch, Minus (not disbanded per se, but their output since Jesus Christ Bobby has been disappointing) and Drowningman (although rumours abound of a reformation minus Simon Brody).
