I entered the world of tube amplifiers with great expectations as I purchased a Peavey Valveking 112 about a month ago. Since then I have been fucking around with it and its OK(at least compared to the price of the thing).

But I have some questions about it.

Is it normal for the tubes to turn bright blue at medium volumes?

The reverb is utterly unusable, it makes an ugly hiss sound when I pluck a string. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

For those who have experience with that A/B "Texture" thing, is it supposed to change something dramatically? Because I really can't hear any difference.

The Valve king although Tube is a cheap amp. the idea behind it is to make the cheapest amp possible but still being all tube. Thats why things like the reverb and plastic parts are cheaper.

The A/B thing is an EQ texture control i think. For example if you want to play blues you would turn down the gain and put it in one direction. Metal you turn up the gain and put it in the oposite direction.

Maybe you have the gain up too high to notice a difference?

Metal guitarists tend to use a lot of gain

The texture makes the tubes saturate at lower volumes creating more gain for bedroom levels. Or so i was told i always have it on the farthest right (if your looking at it from behind). Its not the greatest tone in the world, but its good for practicing, and until i get my rack system working it will do.

It is supposed to be a 'switch' between class A and class AB (more power) for the power section, it's two different ways of how a tube poweramp works

Anyways... What about the tubes glowing bright blue after about 15mins at high volumes? Is that something I should expect or should I be glad the thing hasn't blown up?

tubes should be glowing. otherwise they're not working.

well on my Blue voodoo i cant really tell how much my tubes are glowing with the back light on it

Correction on my last statement. Glowing blue isn't really a bad thing...glowing neon red is VERY bad though.

the more you have it turned way up, if you turn it off the lights(and you dont have any weird lights behind it like on engl's blue voodoo's, framus, ect.. you'll see blue in the tubes when you're playing. but like bright neon ish colors might not be a good sign.

There are tubes that glow alot less than others, some not even visible unless you really look for the glow

Glowing tubes are sexy.

Its just the heater inside the tube that makes it work. You know, get those electrons moving.

Some amp companies put lights in the amps like Hughes and Kettner

Almost all brands with visible tubes put lights behind them to make them look as if they are glowing alot

h&k on the newer tube heads like the MKII triamp, the duotone, trilogy ect.. they have neon going on for the logo which looks cool as hell... then framus cobras, the lights ar actually on the front top facing the tubes. and on like engl's and blue voodoos there are little lights right behind the tubes.

i think it looks cool on my powerball, but it'd be cool if i could change the color.
