Tubes?

What is the difference in tone between using EL34 tubes or 6L6 tubes?

Thanks

First of all, amps are made to usually only one run kind of tube, but some of them have bias switches or you can mod them to run both.

6L6s have more "low end" and growl in their sound, whereas EL-34s are...well, think marshall.

So basically El34's would have a tone similar to what a lot of metalcore bands have, and the 6L6 tubes will give me more of a death metal type of tone? My amp has a switch to accept either 6L6 or EL34 powertubes.

Yea ive heard 6l6's have a lot for balls, low end and what not. I wish i would have done research before i bought my EL84 mesa poweramp. Once I upgrade to a higher output poweramp (past this 20/20) ill get somthing with 6l6's. Where do EL84's sit on the whole scheme of things?

it depends on the amp, overall el34's have less headroom, less low end, with a mid hump... where as 6l6's have alot of headroom, alot of low end, and pretty balanced highs and mids.

putting el34's in a recto wont make it sound like a marshall. but it will tighten up the lows and give it more saturation.

el84's are supposed to be some kind of a half power el34 and are usually find in combo amps or low power bluesy style amps
