Power Amp Question
I am wondering if I purchase an additional poweramp, can I run my Peavey Triple X head through it in order to increase the volume? Because the Triple X on its own isn't very loud for being 120watts tube.
Thanks

Here's my setup:
Jackson Rhoads > Peavey Triple XXX Head > Hartke 4x10 Guitar Cabinet
It is barely audibly over the other guitarist's amp and the drums for some reason. And I have the amp at full volume, but I think it's common knowledge that the volume peaks at about two o'clock.

get a 4x12, and make sure the tubes are all good. old tubes lose volume. and blown tubes dont put out any power, also reducing volume.
also, what is your eq'ing like?

My EQ is as follows:
Ultra Channel - I don't really use this one much
Gain: 12 o clock
Volume: 3 o clock
Bass: 12 o clock
Mids: Dimed
Treble: 2 o clock
Crunch Channel
Gain: 12 o clock
Volume: 3 o clock
Bass: 12 o clock
Mids: 1 o clock
Treble: 3 o clock
Clean - Screw Cleans, I never use this channel (And btw, if any of you know how to convert it to a 3rd gain channel that'd be great).
And finally, how can I check whether my pre/powertubes are dying?

After about 1 o clock the change isn't really that noticeable. And I do have enough mids. Hmm.

Bigger speakers = more volume. Wattage =/= volume.

More speakers = Volume as well, so you could use the 4x10 and the 4x12, or you could just be a n3wb and learn the hard way?

the speakers is what lets the volume out, it will greatly affect your volume, two different speakers pumped with the same power will be different in loudness

well, im pretty sure that hartke 4x10 cab is a bass cab. if so, those speakers arent focusing on the right frequencies either.
more speakers and bigger speakers move more air.

I'm pretty sure its a guitar cabinet, or at least that is what Samash.com markets it as. Anyways, I'm probably going to save for an Avatar cabinet in the near future. At the momen I might just borrow my friend's Marshall 1960 cabinet (or something like that). I'll check the tubes, but the amp was barely used before I bought it so I doubt it could be that.

Could be that the tubes are fucked since you tried to play it through headphones LOL.
Try it on a different cab. If it still happens, then you can bet your left nut its your power tubes.
I think you bought yourself a tube amp without really knowing what you were getting yourself into.

Hartke does indeed have a 4x10 cab for guitars with a head as well. it's a "mini stack".
lol.
