It happened, it was my sister's house warming party. The guy's name was Chris, (one of my sister's mates). He was well into his classic rock, Uriah Heap and stuff, etc. I'd just put Master of Puppets on the stereo which prompted his comment along with him snearing and turning his nose up at the young guard who were knocking the plodding dinosaurs to their death!

They last two no one has said to me, yet, but I think they are really misguided statements.
Edit- I do get that whole "I don't understand what they are saying." Half the time, I actually don't understand them. Unless I read the lyrics, it does sometimes sound like alot of growling, although I know that's not what it is. Honestly, I don't pay much attention to the lyrics as I do the instruments. I know that sounds a little shallow, since a good chunk of metal is defined by the lyrics, in my opinion. I'm just more inspired by the instruments than I am the singer.
I also sometimes get that whole "That's the devil's music" argument. Some of the adults that give me this bullshit are the same parents that let their 12 year old daughters dress up like their favorite whorish pop star bimbo and go parading their skin in schools and other public places. I don't care what music anyone else listens to, but don't go talking about how corrupt metal is until you put some clothes on that lip-syncing fake you call a star.
If metal is truly the devil's music, I say to these parents "tell the devil I said 'thank you' when you see him in Hell."

I used to relish in my satanic skills when they denied me the opportunity to play "psychotic precision" or some shit like that on an acoustic in school.  But I have seen firsthand the effects of playing a popular song. One time i was playing cemetary gates (no one paid attention) and then just played the opening riff to "beat it" and every black person in the room huddled around me. One of the girls wanted me to teach her and i tried for about 10 minutes, only to be too discouraged to continue after she asked if the fact she was left handed mattered.

i honestly try to listen to a bit of everything, i am open to any and every style of music, i will give anything a chance. i like being musically diverse, it comes in handy when writing.
i dont know if i posted this before in this thread, but my step-mom told me once that metal isnt even music, and we got into a huge debate where i brought john cages "4:33", she still insists that it isnt music and it takes no talent to play it, in which case i play a simpler metal riff and hand her the guitar and say "you play that"

That 'heavy heavy shit' sounds like nu-metal and not most of the metal we listen to (how many bands do you listen to where the singer yells 'fuck' every few words, or anything close to that?), about which you've all said pretty much those exact same things.
I listen to as much of everything as I can. I'm not going to make a list of every genre I listen to, so just trust me. Most people who claim to do so listen to a little of everything they consider to be music or of which they're aware, i.e. a little of 'everything' as understood by them, so they can't really be said to be lying. Some of them might find something worthwhile in every genre, too. Most of them are just fucking machines.

I figure I'd share this little annoying comment some asshole said to me today as I was leaving work.
I was listening to Electric Wizard in my car. A Slipknot and Korn fan (i know this because he is always wearing their shirts) told me that they weren't even heavy. I wanted to kill him and his whole family.
Also a couple days ago at school a kid with a Mae shirt on (some gay emo band) saw my Sunn0))) shirt and said, "I hate that band, all they do is scream." I looked at him for a second and just said "i hate you" and walked away. He looked really shocked I said that.

Friend at work thought that Carcass was a very low profile band and barely anyone has heard of them.
I've listed several bands that I've listened to, all of them Mainstream as hell, and he thinks I'm making them up. Or he thinks that they are very unpopular bands that no one has heard of. I'm like, "I've heard of them." Not a bright kid.... and he wants to go into a field of Pharmacy, which worries me because if he's ever filling out my perscription in the future, I"m gonna make sure it's Zyrtec and not Prozac.
