Hey guys I plan on getting this setup soon:

Guitar>Line 6 Guitarport>Comp + SM57 Mic

Im going to use Fruity Loops for the drum tracks. And I planned on using Cakewak (Sonar 5 Producer Edition) for the recording or w/e. But it seems that Cakewalk doesnt support my onboard sound or something. It doesnt really work too well. So should I get an alternate program or buy a new soundcard? This program looks really complicated anyway, but I dont mind spending a bit of money on a new card. So can you guys link me to a good sound card for this? Btw I have 5.1 Longitech speakers that arn't working. (Only 3 of them) Im assuming its because of the Onboard sound. So it has to support them also.

I hope theres someone on here that knows a bit about comps.

Sounds like you need an ASIO soundcard to use Cakewalk. I have a soundcard laying around somewhere that retails for about $300, I'd probably sell it to you for $150 at most. Its an ASIO supported card, good sound quality recording, but I don't need it anymore.

I suggest Adobe Audition...way fucking easier to use...second are you are saying that you have 2 sound cards, one onboard and another that is in the pci slot? If so you can disable the onboard through the bios and just use the pci slot one...next I would say buy a soundblaster audigy with that 5.25" bay drive...it has a 1/4" plug in that is nice for not losing sound with...but that's just me...

Hey, Ive got the Shure 57A microphone. I don't know about it. I thought it was going to be better... For $140, i expected better. Don't get me wrong and all, its good but you might need another mic is you want a more professional sound. This is because the 57A doesn't like bass. When I record i have to crank Low all the way to 10, and this isnt really enough. My whole room shakes and things fall off shelves, but a great chunky tone is not present in the recording. It still sounds very thin. Think Sleep Terror's Paraphile album. The tone is thin. But not that thin. Its very hard to judge.. I dunno.. damn.. maybe look into other brands of microphone. or the shure 58 maybe. Or maybe youll like the sound it gives. I dont know how the line 6 sounds and what your guitar is so your results are gonna be completely different. Good luck.
