Use of extended range basses?
i am one of those people who are always looking for more strings, i plan on soon getting a custom 8 or 9 made. I was wondering, does anyone here know of a place where extended string basses are used in music? i know they are used a lot in jazz but i have not actually found an example of recorded music other than jean baudin/nuclear rabbit that uses basses with that many strings. So, hopefully someone here listens to more than just metal like me and can give me an example.

The most amount of strings I have heard of being used is 6 and that's by Adrian Lambert, former Dragonforce bassist.

Jean baudin has custom 9/11/12 string basses made for him by Ken Lawrence, Conklin, and other bass luthiers..
Conklin is more popular, and you can find a nice 8/9 string in there custom shop.
I think Jean is the only bassist ive heard/seen using a bass with more than 6/7 strings in a proper full band, other bassists just do a lot of solo stuff with them, but like youve seen, they do work in a band environment (Nuclear Rabbit), and are great for experimenting.

i have a 6 and have extensively played a 7 but i am lookin for somethin in the range of 8-9. i like conklin alot but couold never afford it..a 9string without any extra features starts at the bar minimum of 5800
i am lookin for a more affordable manufacturer of 8s and 9s maybe around the area of 2000-2500

2000-2500 you might be S-O-L
with most music gear you get what you pay for, and you dont want to end up with a 2500 dollar "First-act"
as for the music. just make it your own im sure a 8-9 string would be kick ass in a metal band.
