Dive bomb guitar technique
I read somewhere about a "dive bomb" guitar technique. Steve Vai does it. It has something to do with your tremelo bar. Is this the easiest technique with your tremelobar and how do you do it? Sorry if its been asked before.

yeah you just push the whammy bar towads the body of your guitar, so the pitch drops (dives).
Have a look at this

i just tried out some off your examples (except the pinch harmonic) I don't know, is that all there is to it? I just hit a note and then press the bar to the body? I already did that but didn't know they call it a "divebomb". Seems pretty basic i thought it was something special.
thanks for the info

yup, thats a divebomb. Search google, or this site, for 'whammy tricks' for more interesting stuff.

Divebomb? Isnt that where you strum a note and dip the trem arm so the strings slacken?

crickets reminds me of Toxik and a bunch of their songs. One of the cooler and easier tricks is the pinch harmonic + fast whammying. It creates a really cool effect

Whammy bar King
Grab a copy of Death's Leprosy. Rick Rozz uses his whammy bar more than any guitarist ive ever heard.
Also Kerry king uses nice bombs in Seasons. (Open B dive followed by 5th frett natural harmonic. Sounds wicked)

does kerry king uses spectacular divebombs in the albums "raining blood" or "divine intervention"? And so yes in which songs?
If you could say in wich songs on Seasons he uses that technique we could have an idea how wicked it sounds

You can also do dive bombs with natural harmonics and move the bar back towards the body or down.

Dive bombs
The song seasons in the abyss. First solo kerry bends a high note a couple of times then hits an open b and dives then hits a fifth fret natural harmonic and dives then pulls up. Bit of delay too gives more impact. But i can't stress enough about Rick Rozz's whammy bar action in Leprosy most whammy bar action you'll ever hear.

yeah. listen to angel of death. when the dueling guitar solos are about to finish. before dave does his thing...thats a perfect example of the dive bomb.
that shits hella sic. dive bombs i mean. a cool thing to do would be to drop it nice and slow and then hit the note again and jiggle you're hand. then do a classic slayer solo. improvised of course!

The oldest recording I've ever heard with a "dive bomb" was done by Jimmy Page on "For your life". Anyone know if it originated from somewhere else before that??

dive bomb good spot
After hitting a open e and bombing, hit natural harmonics on the seventh frett,b and g strings while the bar is down then pull up on the bar and vibrato it. One of my favs.

My grandma knows how to do the "dive bomb technique".
She actually did it once.

Haha that's a terrible song... but I don't think the dive got earlier than that...
