Don't Dally

" Don't Dally "

(driving sound with changing rhythms)
Did you find it part of the custom
To walk behind the tall?
Couldn't you see from behind
That their lives were shortened?
You shouldn't believe all the media tells you.
They make up things to fool you
And indeed they did just that.
The snare I set that caught your footstep
Was a preventive measure
That made you fall flat on your face
Only to save your life.
A life I felt was worth keeping
If not for anything but the chance to see
Your eyes.
Oh my! What a sight you were!

Believe me if I thought you were as bad as Everett said
I wouldn't have thought to do it.
I'd have let you meet your demise
And step from the even ground to temprary weightlessness.
Sailing, soaring, twirling, falling.
Falling until the ground would eat you up
And spit you out again.

(regular rhythmed melody)
I never asked you to give me your heart.
I just asked to take your hand
To keep you from falling through
To the other side.
I never wanted to see you go.
Never wanted your world to collide with hell.
Never wanted you to disappear between the cracks.
I'm glad I held on.
Are you?

( solo)

(broad and lighter)
Breathe more life into the day after tomorrow.
Take what they promised, but do it the right way.
Instead of the empty words that they rehearsed
Over and over.
Bring your own purpose into the new day
And don't step to the edge.

It appears as though you have put alot of work into this song. Its actually really good i think anyways. The snare sentence was intresting to say the least. Caught me a lil off guard, but good none the less.

This piece kinda reminds me of things i often attempt to say to others. I have this... optimism when it comes to other people, more over myself. But.. i find myself often, giving others advice... to better their lives.. and their just overall...... feelings.

Intresting end to say the least.

Thanks. Someone had written about people learning to fly -so to speak- by driving off cliffs. I took it to a level of walking off the edge of a cliff and adorned the imagery a little further.

I know what you mean by the advice thing. Check your pm's. I do that, too. And that's what ended up happening in this piece, too. Some is based in fact and some imagination.

Hear, hear, he say it too! Seven fat cows to the speaker of truth!

A question - exactly what or who is Everett referring to?

I don't mind telling you, I would take it if you offered me to perform this song. Something real humble and nice, with that heart shattering solo exactly where you placed it; or grand and symphonic... you know, music wise I can't help to start thinking of Guns'n'roses's "November Rain", the music video version.
You seem to have pretty good ideas about the music already; do you think you could let us hear it or at least see it? I give you my quite solemn vow that your name will be mentioned at least times thrice in any given performance of this song by me.

Tullie-- Thanks! But no more White Noise, please???

Amadeus--Seven fat cows? Dancing maybe? Now there's imagery. Maybe we should start collaborating since this isn't the first piece of mine you've asked to use. I'll get with you about it via pm. I don't have a problem with it. We'll just work out some ideas there. I could get some notes down, but I have trouble with time sigs. I could send a sound recorder version, but they sound like heck. We'll figure it out though.

Everett!! Oh dear, Everett. I haven't the faintest idea why Everett because I don't even know any Everett's. That was the name that showed itself in that line and I tried others and they just didn't seem to work right. Everett can therefore be whom or whatever one chooses him to be. (I got asked that at tc, too.) I guess he's just a personification of someone who fits the gossipy/informent(sp.) description of that part of the song.

Funny thing is, it's a couple of cities in the US. Small industrial towns. Hmm...
