How do you know that this guy isn't gonna hack up your guitar installing this thing? 45$ isn't exactly a professional price. You should ask to see some of the other work that he's done.

A Kahler, although not cheap, would make a very nice investment.

cheap trem = shit trem that will make you want to kill yourself.

its not worth it if it cant hold strings in tune, cant do dives without staying in tune, and is just a bitch to tune. do yourself a favor and get a kahler or an original floyd.... although you'll like the kahler alot more.

I think you'll like the OFR more, especially if your guitar already is partly routed(for a vintage trem like Fenders for example). They're so easy to set up and keep in tune so long as you use common sense, Kahlers are more of a pain. OFR's are way cheaper too, and getting replacement parts for OFR's are not a hassle. I've yet to try a Kahler but based on my own experience get an OFR, luthiers are much more familiar with installing them than Kahlers, hence a REAL pro installation won't cost much(long as excessive routing isn't required).

yeah, the luthier i talked to said that he was probably one of the happiest people in the world when he heard that they stopped making Kahlers. i was the one who broke to him the bad news that they had gone back into production.

he said the guitarists he knew didn't really like them because the actions on them are "spongy," and require a person to be "real accurate" with their dives. those don't necessarily sound like bad things to me, but whatever.

I like my good ol OFR, it responds exactly as I would expect any locking tremolo to. Plus they're soooo cheap compared to Kahlers. I bought a brand new one for 150$ today, and you can get em for less used on ebay. I just grabbed a chrome one cause noone had it in black, and since there's only a few black trems on ebay they're selling for the same price of a new one so I just said fuck it. Besides the tuners and locking nut are slightly chromish(cosmo black).
