So I just played a metalzone through about $1500 of tube equipment
*is insta-banned by xdx*
lol, i borrowed it from a friend for giving him a free guitar i had lieing around my house (i wanted to dick around with it) and i got it today and here's how i tested it.
A) On Its Own through my ENGL's clean channel - this pedal does one thing. Slightly scooped metal stuff. It would not hold at all in a band situation, but if used right it might pull off some decent recordings.
B) Compared to my ENGL's distortion channel - The metalzone has a tad more "grind" in the sound, but the ENGL is way more 3D and sounds a little meaner on the chugging bits. Leads are actually decent sounding on the MZ, but once again they dont have enough midrange loudness to cut through anything.
C) As a Boost!! - yeah, i know i'm crazy. The result was actually kinda cool for at home practice...the grind of the MZ with the CHUGGA CHUGGA DEATH of the ENGL, but was also noisy as fuck.
Verdict?
MZ's are pretty cool for at home practicing metalheads, if set at the right spots on the EQ/dist. Wouldnt do anything band related well.

I use a Digitech Death Metal pedal with my Triple XXX if I want to get that buzzsaw guitar sound somewhat remniscient of Entombed during Clandestine and Left Hand Path.

i have seen so many people bash gear without every playing it or even hearing it just becaouse some 'gear-head' says its no good
granted it is a pedal, and my persona opinion is it sucks, but at least i learned that through experiance
