ok here's the deal, I have 7 weeks to write an original piece inspired by a Shakespeare play for my uni course. My band and I have chosen Othello and are aiming for a really chunky metal guitar riff with a kick arse solo. Any ideas at all are welcome. The competition is a no-originality heavy metal Macbeth but I'm afraid favouritism will ensure their marks are very good- so if anyone can give us some ideas or cool chords, techniques or anything to blow people away, would be greatly appreciated.

Cool project. Which scene inspired a heavy metal piece? I imagine that they'll be judging on your ability to effectively create the same mood that the words do.

For the solo do it with flanger and delay. That will sound kick ass

Just make it as epic and wanky as you can.

Since you have a theme to guy by it shouldnt be too hard.

Do you have any previous songwriting experiance?

make sure you have dueling guitars too since it is Othello and that other guy (blah forgot his fucking ass). There is also Desdemona you could add in for a 3rd guitar or maybe something nice like a violin...i don't know I think something like that would be cool.

Also breaking down the play in parts based on mood like the opening...being epic and amazing since it is out on the sea or some shit with Othello being ths great captain. Then when there is a fight maybe some heavy, dark, violent stuff and all that good shit!
