Does this have any hopes of repair?

http://www.dominocs.com/eBay/pedals/032006neck39.jpg

It's a neck I might grab for dirt cheap to build my own project guitar(for fun, plus it'll be dirt cheap). The seller sais you can't feel the crack but he would reccomend to glue it before usage.

I saw a repair guide for cracked headstocks/necks at FretNotGuitarRepair.com and it looked helpful. But apparently you have to slowly finish the break so it's seperated into two pieces(the neck and headstock), and then reglue it. This particular crack is much farther into the fingerboard length(it's across the scarf joint as you can see).

I COULD just try to gently push open the seam and jam some hot glue in there, that's probably wiser cause if I finish the break I may fuck up the fingerboard.

What glues are best for repairing cracked headstocks. Any generic wood glue or something else? Please let me know ASAP, thanks.

Well this one wouldn't cost me more than 30$. A new Wizard II neck would be 100$+. Here's another pic: http://www.dominocs.com/eBay/pedals/032006neck34.jpg

Its' not that big as you can see from that angle. I think I'm going to grab it anyway and do my best to repair it. I don't wanna spend 200$+ on a project knock-around guitar, but I just wanna know if anyone's done a repair like this.

It perfectly repairable.

It depends how far you can force the crack apart as to whether it's worth totally snapping it to reglue from scratch, or whether you can just pour glue in there. Ideally you need glue in every orifice, so bear that in mind.

Either way, make sure the glue covers every surface and there is enough to squidge out of the crack when clamped. Let it dry and then sand off the excess.

Oh my god. Is THAT it? (see attachment)

If thats all, dont even repair it. if its just a crap guitar youre building, just leave it like that. That's what Id do anyway.

It will probably open up when under tension.... I'd repair it. It won't take much.

You can fix that, no problem. For $30 bucks, go ahead and get it and spend the $10 to fix it. And for that one, you will not have to finish the break. It's fine.

Yeah, I sell my stuff and buy new shit, don't like it, then sell it, and so on. :P Got an NJ Ironbird a few months back, tried to like it but hated it, sold it for more, got the DXMG, selling it now(go bid, 5 hours left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1), and I got a new extremely better Ironbird today with EMGs for pretty cheap. Also got a multi FX pedal, hated it, sold it for more, and got a DD-3 and a cheap ass EQ pedal. Having my college grant money leftovers available don't hold me back when I see an auction that's about to end.

Well never mind, I forgot to check back at the auction(ended at 34$, it's a Wizard II neck btw). Meh whatever, I just thought it would be fun to build a guitar for dirt cheap but since a neck that cheap slept out of my hands guess I won't bother... I'll keep my eyes peeled in the future. Thanks for the help.

i plan on building a guitar in the near future. but not a crap one. should i buy a good neck used or buy a warmoth. i found a white korina neck with ebony fretboard for 177$. the guitar will be an explorer. i want natural finish but mahogany is boring. how much would and sxplorer made of maccasar ebony cost. dont know how to do a top so tell of some pretty(as in looks)/semi affordable guitar body woods.

An ebony top? Will cost you a ridiculous amount. For the stuff you need to buy and trouble you'll go through you might as well get a custom Ran with a natural finish, it'll save you cash(probably) and a headache if you're going to make yourself an instrument.

A good top wood would be walnut, it's dark and awesome, look at this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Raven-Walnut-Ne...1QQcmdZViewItem

Motherfucking beutiful. I'd love to own one of those someday.

no see i dont know hot to do a top. i acctually have been looking at figured claro walnut. trying to find a good sized chunk to cut on. that or something in burl. either way it'll just be a bolt on neck. it shouldnt be that much. neck <200, body <150, pickups< 100, general electronics sohuldnt be expensive, and im just getting a regualr string through bridge. to keep it affordable.

is this safe?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
im guessing it is but something about that many pieces of wood basically glued together seems a little un sturdy
