randall rg combo for that price range. Honestly, you can do a whole better than that if you go for used stuff.

as i always say, try the amps out at your music store. find one that sounds good to you, and then ask for opinions on it. it also makes a difference which options you get with it (ie, chorus, reverb, overdrive, gain 1 or 2 channels, and so on...)

I can't remember what exact model, but I used to have a sweetass Peavey amp that was 75 watts, and pretty inexpensive. But still, with a band, it's going to get loud enough that 75 is a bit low. Don't do like I did when I was starting out, buying the most inexpensive stuff just because it's the easiest. I thought all I needed was just barely good enough gear to get by, but trust me, you'll end up moving beyond that so you might as well, as SFU420 recommended, save up and get something that you won't just trade in a few months down the road. I'd recommend at least 100 watts -- don't wanna be turning the amp to max just to have it heard. Fender and Peavey are really good brands that I've gotten some great deals with, so whatever store you're shopping at, just browse around and try to find what suits you best for a price within your range (which, by the way, 350$ can get you a higher watt amp, but it might have to be used).

100 watts is definitely advisable, since you'll have to be at the drummer's decibel level. plus, things tend to be amplified in places like garages, where there's nothing but hard, inabsorptive material for the soundwaves to ricochet off of. Fender and Peavey make some pretty good 2x12 combos in your price range; although i'm not sure of the wattage on those because i don't deal with 2x12s on a regular basis, it shouldn't be all that hard to find one in the 100w range. just make sure you stick it at head level so it can be heard.

oh, and of course, saving up and throwing more money at the problem is always a sure-fire path to an easier and more satisfying solution.

I am pretty sure you wont be satisfied with any of those amps you mentioned, and they wont be able to keep up with the rest of the band and still sound good.. sure one may think it doesn't matter because it's only garage jamming, but when you finally try, it gets booring to jam because of the ugly unusable sound and feel, and the next step will be to quit the band or whatsoever because its booring..

I've been thru this process, anyone else who recognize themselves?

If you could save up a little more, you could get something more useable for your needs

edit: Oh btw, no, you do not want to buy new, you can get a pretty badass rig used if you save up just a little bit more.. If you are worried about what stuff to look up to check if the item you are buying is faulty, come back here and ask what to look up before

Yea, or wait unil the guitar shop gets a decent half stack in and you'll save probably a thousand bucks on it. Or even a 2x12 combo, youll get for hundreds less then the new cost and it might be in mint shape. Thats how i got my marshall stack, it was hardly ever used and i saved over 1000 buying it this way.

FUCK YOU AND BUY USED! there is no goddamn good reason to ever buy new exept to feed the used market. for 250 used you could get great stuff you wont want to sell for years. you can get close you "your sound" with 350

I owned a Peavey Studio Pro 112 before that cunt Katrina marinated it in 2.5 feet of swamp blood and sewer sludge for about a month (thank God it was on the second floor, right? ), and it was a good little combo for jamming with anyone other than a drummer. i remember being fond of the tube dynamics control knob, because it could really add to the versatility of the amp in terms of tone. i even managed to hook it up alongside my Princeton 112 Plus, and its highs and mids really complemented the warmer, bassier sound of the Princeton. the Studio Pro is not, however, a true tube amplifier.

after a while, though, mine started acting weird and cutting my volume down to near-inaudible levels. it'd be loud, then drop down. i'd crank it more to get it back to its original level, then it would stay loud for a while and just drop right back down again. smacking it worked sometimes, but most of the time I could only shut the damn thing off and hope that it worked when i came back to it later (which it usually did...for a while). i was planning on getting it serviced the week that the storm hit.

it was a good part of a nice little home rig, because it wouldn't wake the neighbors like my 1/2 stack would. but it's just not loud enough to jam with a whole band -- unless you guys plan on playing w/o drums, which I seriously doubt. listen to everyone else on here and get something bigger, at least a 100w 2x12. you'll be glad you did, since it's something that you'll eventually have to do anyway.

Thumbs up Startin' kit

Hi,
I don't know what for use the mentioned amp.
But it isn't enough for everything. But enough for practicing and for make new songs. I've a 90Ws bass-combo what I'm using for a Predator (Peavey),
very mercilless even the low range of my tune. For effexs got a ZOOM 707.
The very best choice for everything in guitar-music.

You right, need at least a 50W's for "all-band"-music (in a garage).
We had made my music also in a garage .
Also need a very good effect, because they have a pre-amplifier, maybe enough with your 10W in many instances.

I've been always sick from vox-problems.
So, I hope you can flow the metal on!

....

dude you could very easily practice in a whole band scenario with a 20 or even less watt tube amp.

I suppose it depends on how good the rest of the band are really.. i was in a garage band , yeah.. it sucked with my 15 watt amp but still.. i could still hear it over the bassist and the drummer and i was furthest away from it. I think the reason is because the drummer couldnt drum for shit and the bassist was usually lying on the floor stoned out his head

But yeah , go for a big 100w amp , louder is better no?

Depends, louder is better for a band situation, but obviously for practice, you dont need loudness.

Yep, sometimes my nick. I had another band with my two other half-wit guys.
Sorry, but it was a flying visit in "Hip-Hop Country". So, we had been guessed a stupid nick for ev'ryone. "Make music in Rebirth, then make a slightly violent lyric"
Tadaaaam...! Hiphop band's over and done with!

Louder is better, but where? In a little garage? It isn't always good.
We've heard only a big mush. Stones were cried out.
But feel was good (more beer, more loudness) and I've forgot my yack...

If you buy good shit (such as my preamp, a good cab and so on) you dont have to worry about money because they dont loose value, it's like buying an apartment in manhattan.. you can still sell it for minimum the same price you gave for it
