Mixing Properly?

OK, I thought once I had a song recorded it would blend perfectly (I played to programmed drums) but when I went to mix it, the drums were blocked out by the guitars. Now this poses a problem because when I finally got the drums to a reasonable level, the guitars became "muddier" and unclear sounding. Is there a proper way to record the guitars or drums and whatnot to maintain that ubertight clarity between the instruments?

Cheers

Mess around with the EQ in your program to get the right sound. If it gets muddy maybe try lowering down the bass.

get it to the point that you cant tell whether the drums or the guitars should be louder. thats when you have it right.
if its muddy then its pretty much a problem with your micing, over all tone or both. some EQing within the program could help enough though.

Try the EQ, and do some panning, that should help "seperate" it.

Definately panning, I usually like to have one guitar part %75 or more panned one way and then the other panned an equal amount the other way. And drums, when recording real drums anyways, I like to have certain pieces panned slightly. Like say the snare and with a 50/50, the first rack tom like a 60/40, the second tom a 40/60 and the floor tom like a 65/35, and so on. This way when you listen to things in stereo, it gives it a spacier feel like your really there.

Oh and one other thing, something fun to do with double kick, pan one kick hard left, and the other kick hard right.

You need to learn about E.Q., Compression, and panning to locate your sounds to where you want them. There is far too much information for me to type.............basically, leave your bass, kik, and snr, mono then pan your guitars, cymbals and toms left and right. Use Eq comp and panning in this order.
