That sledgehammer shit was funny and may actually work, but you need to find out what they're tuned to, it'll say at the top of the tab usually, and just coordinate your strings. Make them the same pitches and you'll be golden like a shower.

Well it'd take a long fucking time to explain doing it with every string, but you can use a piano, or just do it by octaves. Find the note on another string and play the open to make it the particular octave. Such as playing the B on the 5th string, and make the octave match what you tune the 6th string to... That's probably confusing, but I'm too damn tired to explain it better right now.
