Digitech RP200

Have any of you guys got this pedal? I bought it a few days ago and am not entirely impressed with the presets that it comes with. If you have any custom ones you feel like posting (just tell me the settings you have turned on, and the value your using for them), or if you have suggestions or tips. I dont normally use pedals but got this for a good deal. I like the ACEY preset just so you know, so anything with good beefy, but crystal clear distortion is good.

Good or bad purchase??

Dude...

You seriously thought that a floor multi unit would come preset with a good death metal tone?

You need to cook one up yourself. Select a high gain distortion and play with the EQ until you get your sound.

i was just wondering if anyone else here had some settings or knowledge of this unit and a few suggestions.

Does an opeth-esque tone count? If so, heres what it sounds like. I used an RP300A for this.

If you like the way that sounds, I can give you the settings.

I had alot of trouble with my rp300 getting anyhting i liked out of, you might want to try and save up for like a POD XT live, you can get anything from Mesa's to engl, and matchless, its great.

I have a Digitech RP200A. I like using the Rectifier for the amp model setting , and setting the amp model volume up a good amount. Then I just add stuff for different presets like compression, different EQ settings, and all your effects, but using the Rectifier or even the Hi Gain amp model setting will get you a good distortion.

i got the rp100 really soon after it first came out. it was awesome for me at the time when i was new to effects, but like most Digitech pedals, it was built shitty and broke (oh yea, i spilt coke on it too).

good for starters, not for experts.

next time, get a BOSS

Yes, the GT-series.

I've got the exact same thing, Digitech RP200. What I do for death metal may not suit you, though. But anyway. You know the preset "Limpy"? It uses a whammy effect to knock the pitch down a full step. What I do is go to the whammy effect (I assume you know how to mess with all those settings and shit), change it to "4th down", and then (to clear up the tone a bit) change the treble to "2" (cause on Limpy, it's in the negatives or something, so it's too muddy for such low tones). I tune one full step down already, so the finished pitch is A. For me, it sounds pretty fuckin' sweet, but the higher notes end up a little queezy sounding because the detuning is artificial. For thrash and black metal, I like the preset "Scoop" or "Rectifier". The Rectifier is alittle more distorted and deep in tone, but sounds a bit fuzzy to me.

EDIT: I might want to mention that I go straight through my PA system, so the sound of an amp isn't an issue with me. So just make sure you fuck with your amp as well as the RP200 settings. If you go deep enough into it, it's got a lot of cool effects and tones. Experiment and you'll probably come to like it.

moe_blunts has a point. DigiTechs are good if someone has the patience to sit down and tweak the fuck out of one, but they do tend to be finicky/fragile things sometimes. I've owned three of them in the past, starting with the RP-20 (you know, that big, gold, eight-switch pedalboard monstrosity?) back when it was relatively new. i got about a year or two of solid service out of it before it started erasing my settings (among other things). other people i know have had similar problems with that (and other) DigiTech models. plus digital distortion and effects tend to be a bit on the crispy side by default. they're versatile processors that can do practically anything, but they're also a bit like spines and Ferraris in that they're usually very well-made, but dependent on balance to the point where they're frustratingly prone to break-down. in other words, it'll probably grow on you and serve you well for a time, but don't get too attached.

I don't know if the BOSS GT-series pedals are any better. i played around on a GT-10 in a Guitar Center showroom once, and it seemed a bit on the fragile and delicate side as well. but i'm also an analog whore for that very reason, so i may just be biased.
