EMG 81 Bridge & Neck
anybody here have a bc rich beast with EMG 81's in both the bridge and neck? i just took my 2002 NJ Series Beast to this guitar repair shop to get them installed, but i still don't know how good it's gonna sound. hope it's worth the dough i'm paying. 85 for the installation and 15 for him to fix the chip in my headstock.

85? Fuck man, a soldering gun will cost you a fourth of that. My brother knows how to solder so that helped. You could've taken it to a friend or that knows how to do it...
A dual 81 probably won't be as good as an 81/85 or something else. They're both insanely hot so it'll have poor balance. I reccomend selling one of the 81's and gettin an 85 on ebay.

Wtf? why does it matter? an 85 is just as hot or atleast almost as hot as an 81, and on the other hand, why would it matter if they are just as hot as each other?
They will sound totally different anyways because of their different locations

Well 2 of the same never sound too good. The 81/85, along with using the volume knobs reasonably, will give you an infinitely better sound.

I guess it kinda depends on what you use the neck pickup for. If you use it for cleans I wouldn't suggest the 81. if it's for lead it's pretty good. But the best emg neck pickup imo is the emg 60

well, the 85 was too bassy for my tastes, and i am just too lazy to do it myself. i trust the guy who's doing it, more than i trust my family with a dollar bill. he's done all the work on my guitar, so i'm gonna keep on letting him do the shit. but, i just got a dean mlx for like 199 on music123.com, and i'm going to put the super distortion that was in my beast, and put it in my dean myself. my beast is just so weird and has been worked on so much, that i'm just going to let the guy do shit for it, all my other guitars are gonna be mine to work on. i just finished refurbing my bich, and i'm fixing to put new pick ups in it, most likely an emg 81/60 combo, so as to get a different sound than my beast, but i only use the bridge pickup. that's why i got two 81's, i never use the bridge.

i like the 81/81 and 81/60 setup over the 81/85... the 85 isnt my favorite emg. but once it's all installed, it's really easy to swap out emg's for other emgs.

I didn't like the 81 in the neck, too trebly and thin sounding to be in the neck.
