Foreign Objects
Watching CKY [not the band, the DVD of the Jackass type guys] with one of my buddies the other week and I saw a band which was the first carnation of the actual band CKY - Foreign Objects.
These guys seemed really cool so I downloaded some tracks and its awesome shit! There are influences of Cynic in here I think in lyrics and songwriting, it has a lot of nice meaningful type riffs. The drumming is a little jazzy and shit and the vocals are what Cynic should have in place of robot man.
Don't expect the technicality of Cynic, these guys riffs are more cool than anything and just sound really nice and innovative. If they kept this band going and not the shitty metal of CKY then they'd absolutely rock. The production is pretty fair but a tiny on the raw side.
But anyway I think they are really cool and you should check them out.
Best songs are - Far Cry Behind, The Undiscovered Numbers and Colours
They had 2 albums, 1 demo and one full length I believe. The demo [which is what I have and am going by] is awesome, it's called The Undiscovered Numbers & [and] Colours, the full length is called Universal Culture Shock.
So you guys should check them out they are pretty cool.

about fucking TIME
ive been sucking derons penis for as long as i can remember. hes wholly responsbile for getting me into metal. fyi deron wanted to do pestilence's "spheres" more than cynic...and you say it sounds like cynic because the TUNAC riff sounds a lot like how could i? right...
edit
they had two official releases
TUNAC and UCS. UCS was demo tracks that got re-recorded (guitar parts) and vocals were added to some tracks (planetary, genesis 12a). james muprhy did solos on the songs as well...they released UCS and TUNAC together in a double disc set last november...fantastic release and some of my favorite metal of all time

No I said they sound like Cynic just cos they do... First song I heard was Far Cry Behind. What riff do you say sounds like How Could I?

the main riff in tunac is the same notes as How could I
the double disc, you can get it on amazon, or you could at least. the double disc has the TUNAC ep and the full length UCS
theres tons and tons of other demo tracks floating around (the instru versions of teh songs on UCS) but only some of them made it on to official releases (different versions of Cky's Volume 2) and some are just internet copies floating around.

oh hell yeah Infinity! i didnt recognize the band name, but i too saw them on CKY a long time ago. I agree, those are some FUCKING GREAT guitars!!! after i saw that i tried to find it all over the CKY site, but couldnt. im going to go look them up now. in case i fail, could you link where you got the songs you did, unless it was a filesharing place.
BTW, ever heard that CKY instrumental song? i heard it on a skate video, or skate section on one of the CKY dvds. im not sure if they have more than one instrumental, but this one ruled. that dudes riffs are so distinct, you can always tell its him. well, thats not true anymore i think, dont they horribly suck now.

dude they have so many instru songs. derons riffs still rule IMO.
the song you're thinking of was called "Testing" and it was re-done on UCS with vocals and a james murphy solo, called "Test it out"
