Odd Request
I didnt really know which forum to put this in but anyway :
Does any one know of any chemicals that I could spray / apply to my guitar picks to stop them from slipping?
Ive tried Cutting X's, wearing little finger-sweat bands.... everything, and nothing really works.
Im not a particularily sweaty cunt, Its just that my fungers might get a little slimey from stress, heat etc. , and this only leads to more stress/slimey picks.
So Im wondering whether there are any chemicals / stickers / whatever that I could apply to my most used picks which would aid in grip?
I use mostly Piglet picks (Aussie company), and occasionly Jazz 3's.
The Piglets have little grip grooves but once my fingers are slimey it definantly doesnt work.
Thanks, and any comments appreciated.

www.gorillasnot.com I heard that shit works, but I've never had the problem enough to warrant buying anything, so how well it works, I personally don't know.
On a sidenote, this could probably go in guitar zone, but if the Ancient Ones feel it necessary to put it somewhere, they'll do it.

Just on a random note, try changing your hand soap. I've heard of sweaty hands before, but slimey sounds like there might be lotion in your soap. Just a thought.

Slimey as in sweaty .. gets slippery .. but not waxy .. sorta... I dunno. I doubt its the soap. And I never buy the same soap twice anyway, and Ive had thsi problem for a bit. Meh. And anyway, after I was my hands with most soaps, Ihave a sorta "grippy" feeling. Meh. Thanks Anyway.

Haha yeah, I sometimes have problems with sort of "slimey hands". The funny thing is, I want my fretting hand to remain slippery and my picking hand to be as dry as possible, so before each hardcore guitar session, I just wash my right hand vigourously with soap.

jim dunlop gator grip picks are the solution to your problem
the surface is almost like sandpaper (obviously not as uncomfortable tho ) so it kinda interlocks with the grooves on your fingers and secures the pick.
they vary in thickness so there should be one to suit your style
http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/...dunlopgator.htm
thats an american site which sells them, im sure they sell them in australia, just cast a search in google.com.au for them.

Yeah. Some the dunlop tortex and dunlop gator picks have a great surface. But the piglet picks I use are so unbelievably confortable theyve boosted my playing skill x10. Its too bad they dont make ideal picks.
I tried the Blu Tack on pick but its not really what Im looking for... The pick becomes not veratile and shit... Maybe i should glur sandpaper on the pick???? ....

You tried sanding the picks a little on the top and bottom? My fingers get pretty sweaty when i'm using Dunlop Stubbies, they slip a lot but I sand the tops and bottoms down now and that works quite well. I'd be interested to know of any proven methods of stopping picks sliding also!

well actually, it kinda is... I got a tiny bit and smoothed it out on my index finger side of the pick - so its a very thin membrane of blu tack - and its working well.. There must be another way though. .. .

Get picks with cat-tongue. Like Brain picks:
See the spiky stuff on top?
Thats there to grip to your finger. I use the 1.14 size and i never slip.
Hope that helps.

So If you masturbate with em in your hand . . . does it feel like getting head from a cat?
Anyway. Spam.
And I don't intend on changing pick. Just altering the surface.
So, no, you didnt really help.
But shanks anyway hhhhoney mwah...

Try Ivory soap. 99.9% oil free. Wash and dry thoroughly before you play.

being a drummer and marimba player, sticks tend to slip out of your hand while youre marching a show. what we (as a drumline) used was bug/hair spray. spray it on to your hands/fingers and see what you think, its always worked for us and the moisture level goes way down. not to mention its easy to get and cheap

bluetack is a really bad idea.
how about a plaster? ones with the cloth top, not the plastic.
or one of those sticky patches you can buy for mending bicycle tire punctures?
masking tape might work, (sticky tape made from paper) its probably the cheapest of the three.

how about before you play guitar, wash your hands as normal, and use a bit of talcum powder... you might smell like a poof for a little bit, but it'll stop your hands sweating.

I love those Dunlop big stubbies in 2.0mm, but I fucking hate the fact that they slip like hell no matter how hard I grip. Gotta try those new picks mentioned or that talcom powder shit. Tortex pics have some powder or something on them, but that wears off quick.

If you're thinking of the same blu-tak I'm thinking of, then I doubt very much it will help you out when wet/sweaty. Blu-tack only likes clean dry surfaces.

1. Get the vibrator out of your ass and grow some god damn maturity.
2. Im not benefitting of that at all. It was just a suggestion. I dont work for the company, I just use the damn pick and I know they dont slip. You were having a problem, so I suggested these. Do you even know what benefit means?

Your mum.
Anyway Ive got another quick little question (better than starting a new thread).
I just got my 7 string guitar strings (5 pack) and Im deciding whetherI could change the strings on my 6 string to heavier gauge. But this would mean i have 4 coiled strings and 2 single wire strings.... you get me? So it's basically a 7 string guitar without the highest string.... Is this a good idea or will it put my guitar out of proportion?
I need a quick educated response as I have a music assessment tomorrow and I would heavy as fuck \m/.
So yeah good or bad idea?

Often people put a the extra wound string on - Many string packets come with both so you can choose. So yeah, should work as long as its not too heavy a guage.

Yeah, what if you're walking down the street and someone throws you a guitar real quick, what the hell are you gonna do then? 'Oh hold on, let me run to my house and grab my tack'... That simply is not cutting it.... I don't know about your problem though, I'd just file the picks down for grip...

That is the most ridiculous hypothetical situation ive ever heard.
Anyway, The reason I asked about the whole grippy pick thing is because of getting nervous. Today I had a music performance, and my nerves were high. I was first up, in front of 40 classical music nerds, playing fucking Cryptopsy. Sure I wouldn't really care otherwise, but I'm being marked. So both my hands got sweaty...
and..
Blu Tack worked fucking great. So Im sticking with it. Travis, back to your situation, If I was walking down the street, and someone threw me a guitar (hopefully not from a great height) Im sure I wouldnt get extremely sweaty because of the situation.
It mainly depends on the situation I guess, and air conditions... humidity sucks. But yeah blu tack was great. And thanks *insert name here* for your response to my other quick lil q.
