Dream Theater
I've looked through the forums and never seen any thing like this. I've noticed Dream Theater gets mentioned a lot esp. in the bass forums. I was curious to what would be a good 1st Dream Theater CD.

the only thing like by them is "a change of seasons"
or you can try and "scenes from a memory part 2" an ultra pretentious snore fest. its redeeming qulaity being "overture 1928" that fits the whole album into 3 minutes

I don't mind the album Awake, but I'm not a big fan of them either.

The only album I have is Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and I like it quite a bit. Everyone says it's their worst, so I'm guessing no matter what you go with, it's probably going to be decent.

well really it depends on what you like...
if you like more "beefier" shit then go with train of thought.
but i got six degrees too, and i can always listen to it, so i recommend that also.

Dream Theater RULEZ!!
It does not matter which album Thou buy first, but DO buy one!
Personally, I prefer Black Metal bands like Graveworm and Dimmu Borgir, but my brother is a huge fan of Dream Theater, so I hear many songs I also really like, such as the political song 'The great Debate', but every album and every song is different. The first album, with the previous singer, has a negative aspect in my opinion, because the previous singer does not have the DT-voice the currect singer has. In other words, the previous singer sucked abit

I saw them a year ago with Megadeth and Symphony X, and they all kicked ASS.

I only own the album Awake. I really only listen to them for the guitar work. Same with Symphony X. I feel if I learn their songs/techniques it's all stuff I can incorporate into my own music.
