Trem Picking...
I am sure this has already been answered, but I searched the past couple of threads and didn't find anything. I am wondering, do you have to have your pick parallel to the string whilst trem picking? I normally have my pick angled a bit whilst trem picking.

Wrong forum. And yes, an angle helps increase speed. There is no perfect way to pick, it's all preference. Some things do improve efficiency but there's no set way to pick, just find what's best for you.

how do yall guys hold your fingers? I usually have my index caved in (if that makes any sence). My thumb is parallel with the strings. My wrist is bent in towards the strings. Helps me best to stay loose. Unless of course I play fast for like five minutes straight. Then I start feeling the burn. heh. What about yall?

Occasionally my finger slips and I end up doing that uncontrollably, and it dramatically increases my speed. But my accuracy using that method doesn't last long. I avoid "banana thumb" as much as possible. Just find what's best for you.

I never tremolo pick parallel to strings. I have an angle, but nothing more than 45 degrees otherwise its near vertical and that sounds funny.

my pick is perpendicular...almost. also, i kept shredding picks so i got the JAZZ III by dunlop. damn solid pick. also, where you lay your wrist depends on wether u are trem picking individual strings or full chords

i use the tip my index and my thumb. the rest of my fingers are pointed strait down. and i usually pick individual strings. jazz 3's are the only picks i use. when i shred i try to use my wrist as much as possible. but most of the time the forearm kicks in and people start dying.

Those tiny little picks? Those picks seem to wear me out quicker than the normal picks. With the normal picks it dosn't seem like I got to pick as hard. heh

Dunlop Tortex 1.0 - 1.3mm picks are nice -- not too heavy, not too light -- but nowadays they're goddamn impossible to find down here for some strange reason. Dunlop Jazz IIIs are good too, as MFKR666 has already said. i try to keep them as parallel to the strings as possible when trem picking, but always allow for a little angle because things just sound more graceful that way.
i somehow manage to fit my thumb, index, and middle finger onto those little-ass picks. my thumb stays straight and parallell to the strings, my index finger stays straight and perpendicular to the strings at a slight angle, and my middle finger is somehow almost flatly perpendicular to the strings. my ring and pinky fingers are usually stick-straight, but about half-perpendicular. i know this sounds like the worst, most retarded technique in the world and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone; but complements on the speed and "finesse" of my trem-picking are frequent, so it must be working for me. it may have something to do with my being left-handed. i've noticed that most left-handed guitarists (of varying skill levels) seem to hold their picks the same way.

i use pickboy 1.0 mm picks... theyre glossy so they dont make a scratchy sound when i angle it...
for fingers... i lick them first to get them sticky... and then i have the pick tip perpendicular to my thumb... but i curve my index finger so that it is pointing in the same direction of the tip... that way my wrist wont do all the work because i can push my thumb down on my index finger to get some more motion out of it... i hope that made sense.

For Chunky Palm muted fast notes or chords i find an angle gives it definition.
However. Soloing and have a bit of a wanky shred (Which makes my band mates slide their hands up and down their bass and guitar necks at me) i find a perfectly paralel pick used right at the tip gives you speed and accuracy in your attack.
Just do what feels right. And practise. at least three hours a day
