Just got the Jackson Kevin Bond Model, Looking to Modify It.
I loved the look of this guitar, and it played great, i had no clue who kevin bond was before i bought this guitar, so i didnt buy it just for the name! But i was wondering if i could put a kahler on it. I'm not too informed about kahlers but you dont have to do any routing with them do you? They just float on top? I wont be doing this myself, but i dont even want a luthier routing out my guitar. Also, any other sugestions for modifications?
Also: Whats the point of fine tuners on a fixed bridge!?
Thanks,
Drake

The KB model has an original Floyd right? If it's original, why change it? Kahlers are much more expensive and the extra work on the body will cost a lot too. Just learn to use a good original Floyd. If it's not an OFR, you can get a Schaller OFR for 150$ and installation is a lot easier than a Kahler as the whole tremolo cavity doesn't need to be filled. But it's your axe, so do as you please.
Maybe change the pickup to a X2N or EMG-81 if you don't like it. You could also change the pot/knob to a push-pull knob so you can split the coil in the bridge humbucker for clean playing.

This guitar kicks ass. You look at it man? It doesn't have a Floyd. But Seriously, don't just go putting on Kahlers if you haven't tried them. I guarantee you that some of you here won't like them. They're more complicated then floyds so they're more of a pain in the ass.

If you dont want a luthier routing out your guitar, then who would?
a luthier is like the only person you should trust with your guitar.

Well, micro adjust tuners are just that. They make slight adjustments, and if you have locking tuners it might make more sense to make small tuning adjustments between songs with that.
Floyd Rose now make a fixed bridge with micro adjust tuners on them too.

I tossed an 81 is my KB with quickness. The stock pickup is ridiculously trebley and sounds like shit imo. The fine tuners are great for making quick small adjustments, which is especially nice if you get bitchy when your guitar is even slightly out of tune(like I do). Not a necessity, but its nice to have. I am pretty sure a Kahler would involve no routing, but might take some drilling. If you do replace the bridge, getting either locking tuners or a locking nut(Kahler makes 2 that go behind the original nut) would be necessary.

my custom axe as a kahler, i just ordered it and never played one before, i like it alot, the sustain is much better than with a OFR, though i think afloyd has a bit more reach in terms of how low and high u can bend noptes with the bar. might just ebh me though
