I'd say Dream Theater because its challenging, and musically interesting, Myung is very underated.

I think gorgasm is some fun stuff to play. My favourite is anal skewer.

And of course Cannibal Corpse.

Akercocke also have some pretty sexy moments to play.

RHCP is fun to play, has some great bass lines, learning all of 'Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik' will improve your bass playing, and chops , there old stuff is the funkiest, great to jam along to.

Stop talking out of your ass. They're a great band and none of them are gay. Stay out of the bass forum, cock slob.

So? even though thats slightly odd, it doesent mean they are a shit band, if you are referring to their 'By the way' album, then i can understand, i wasnt very impressed with it either, before that it was all decent dirty funk.

But RHCP have some very good material, and the basslines are great, so if you cant open your mind to that, dont bother posting in this thread.

The reason everyone here is yelling at you is because Flea has jesus powers on bass. Any bassist who denies that is not a bassist, but rather a guitarist flunky.

As for good bands to jam to... Hendrix, Pearl Jam, Rancid, Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and the White Stripes.

But sometimes simple stuff is the more important stuff, if you want to learn how to groove and keep it tight, its like soloing and technical stuff is the icing.. and the groove and solid basslines is the cake, and the icing isnt nothing without the cake, you got to have the cake.

i'd say opeth is really fun to play.
for me its just about the right skill level for the most part(although leaning toward too easy) except for some songs like credence
o filth guy
how can you call a band shitty and gay and when you get shut down by "actual bassists" you say they have good songs???

I smell P-ness N-V

Isn't that the truth. Theres alot of .. lines and riffs from all genres.. That just literally make you go damn, that is really awesome. (not because its hardcore tech).

I'm feeling the Rancid in that list for sure. Freeman is probably still to this day my favorite bassist, not because of his tech skills, but his basslines are just really.... REALLY good.

I'm definately one that isn't impressed with bassists who.. .more or less follow guitarists parts. I mean.. its good and all in some cases but not all. I love Death dont' get me wrong, but thats one thing they often do (or better yet did).

well thanks to you epitaph atheist will soon be near the top of my list. but overall ive definitely gotta say led zeppelin, for me nothing beats jumping into the double time feel on "the lemon song". any of you younger bassists who havent heard this song, go get it now, it rules.
