I mean, that you play your drums that fast that it is (dont know how to say that) hardly one tone...
No tuning of your toms... Not the sound just the technique...
understand?

still not fully understanding
is it too quiet?
are your strokes un even?
perhaps you might want to send someone here who speaks (and has better english) your native language what your problem is and get them to translate, cause we can't help solve your problem if we don't know what it is!!!
(sorry for knocking your english)

do you know mike mangini? hes playing on the toms some kind of drum-roll... just like you use it in marches... but i guess he is not playing a real drum-roll. just playing really fast...
and i wanted to know, how he is doing that with his hands... RLRLRLRLRL???
or some paraliddl: RLRRLRLLRLRRLRLL
i am just interested in the technique...
Understand now? *hope*

I'd like to know more about rolling with toms. I hear dave lombardo use toms in combination with the bass drum to create this sick beefy low end rolls that last a couple bars. What are ways to incorporate a tom roll with the bass drum? I've done the double bass really quick then throw a a one hit per tom quick roll, but they sound so bland and their too quick. Any ideas to share?

What i tried and what sounds really funky is:
play 8's flams over snare and first three toms with 16's on bassdrum direct after it, then roll over toms in the time you need for two 4's and then just four 4's in flams over snare and toms with a 16's bassdrum under it...
Understand
If not tell me and i will write the tabs for it and you can download it...

I don't really understand what you mean. Are you looking for tom roll techniques? If so, try changing the time signature for the duration of the tom roll. Say you're playing in 4/4, do a roll in 3/4 then go right back to 4/4 at the right time.

That would be so cool if you could tab it. Also, could you export a copy compatible with gp4 too if your gonna use gp.
Also, when I roll. I just use RLRL combinations with the time sig most of the time. Except for a quick roll I'm just going 1 hit per tom. It's also cool to roll using repeated strokes with the same hand like... RRL LLR RRL stuff like that

It sounds to me like Grond is asking about playing double strokes. RRLLRRLLRRLL etc. To do this and make it sound good you really need to have your toms tuned pretty high. See if you can get the videos by someone like Thomas Lang to explain his methods and techniques for doing this. Do do a cool, fast and smooth double stroke roll you really need to practice making the second stroke louder than the first, so at speed you get that really nice, clean 32nd feel rather than a lumpy, fast 16th feel.
And davy_gravy, I think what you're talking about are quads, no? Pioneered by Cozy Powell in the 70s, they're basically just a flammed KickKickTomTom repeated. I know what you mean about Lombardo using them, especially on the Seasons album. Infact most of all on the song Seasons In The Abyss itself.
I think (although I know bugger all about him or his bands) that Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater is a big fan of them, maybe check out what he does and how he does it.
Yeah.

I think he means: how to gain a shitload of speed on your tom rolls.
He wants to have "one tone", i.e. he wants to roll that fast it sounds as one big strings of noise (like 'trrrrrrrr'), and not 'tak-tak-tak' separately (as in 'slow' rolls)
Just practise a lot, speed comes in time.

okay so you wann do Pete Sandoval style Tom rolls eh?
the trick is to get your hand speed and your endurance up, and your hand speed around the kit up.
the best way to practice this is simple:
Start a roll on your snare at around 140 or so BPM (or faster if you can)
then move it around your kit, the aim is to never play more than 2 hits on one drum, so keep your arms and wrists moving
then speed it up until you can do it really fast
then try some tomr rolls!!

You can do even one hit per surface starting right hand or left or even alternating. Use multiple hits 2, 3 or even 4 with this same technique. It does work, though I suggest a metronome and some patience , when you first start you will really tell how weak you are. It is something like using stick weights, since it's main function is building strength and endurance, though accuracy is also tightened.

Ahh, ok. That's all you had to say in the first place, haha. I just do RLRLRLRLRL on my toms. as jimmers said, you need to tune fairly high to get fast double strokes out of your toms.
Maybe try tuning your toms a little bit closer together so there isn't a gap in the sounds. If you want to work on hand speed, i suggest trying a RLRLRLRL roll on your floor tom. It wont give that much resistance and will help you get faster...faster. It's alot easier to do a roll on the snare rather than toms.
